White Oak Vets - Peterlee Introduce
For pet owners residing in Peterlee and the broader County Durham region, finding a veterinary practice that not only offers top-tier medical care but also demonstrates genuine empathy and transparent practices is essential. White Oak Vets - Peterlee has recently established itself in the area, offering a new, purpose-built facility designed to cater to the diverse needs of local animal companions. As a relatively new iteration in its Peterlee location, having recently relocated and rebranded from White Lion Vets, it aims to provide comprehensive veterinary services with a renewed focus on modern facilities and patient comfort.
The journey of White Oak Vets to its new Peterlee home signifies an ambition to deliver a higher standard of care and accessibility for the pet-owning community. The practice's commitment to creating a stress-free environment for animals is evident in the design of their new premises, which boasts separate waiting areas and wards for cats and dogs. This thoughtful approach aims to minimise anxiety for pets, making their visits to the vet a more positive experience.
While the practice is under new branding and in a new location, it carries with it a history, and as with any new chapter, feedback from the community is vital for shaping its future. White Oak Vets - Peterlee strives to be a trusted partner in your pet’s health journey, from preventative care and routine check-ups to advanced diagnostics and emergency interventions. The goal is to ensure that every animal receives the attention and treatment required for a long, healthy, and happy life, always aiming to communicate clearly and support owners through every decision.
White Oak Vets - Peterlee is strategically located at Unit 3 Passfield Way, Retail Park, Peterlee, Durham SR8 1PX, UK. This location within a retail park offers significant advantages in terms of accessibility for residents of Peterlee and the surrounding towns and villages in County Durham. Passfield Way is a well-known commercial area, making the practice easy to find and reach.
The recent relocation to this purpose-built facility on Passfield Way from its previous South Hetton base (where it was known as White Lion Vets) marks a significant upgrade in terms of space and amenities. This move was specifically undertaken to provide enhanced facilities and better serve the growing client base in the Peterlee area. The new building is designed to be all on one level, ensuring full disabled access, which is a considerable benefit for all visitors.
For those travelling by car, the retail park setting typically offers ample parking directly outside or within a very short walking distance of the clinic. This convenience is crucial for pet owners, especially when transporting unwell or anxious animals, as it significantly reduces the stress associated with finding a parking spot. The ease of access makes it a practical choice for routine visits and critical situations alike.
Peterlee and its surrounding areas are well-served by local public transport, primarily bus routes. Being located within a retail park, White Oak Vets on Passfield Way is likely to be on or very close to several public transport routes, with bus stops conveniently located nearby. This ensures that pet owners who rely on public transport can also easily access the veterinary services, making quality pet care available to a broader segment of the community. Before your visit, checking local bus routes that serve the Passfield Way Retail Park is advisable for a smooth journey.
White Oak Vets - Peterlee aims to provide a comprehensive range of veterinary services, leveraging its new, modern facilities to deliver high-quality care. Based on information generally expected from a modern veterinary practice and details available about their new setup, services are likely to include:
- Preventative Care: This typically encompasses annual health checks, vaccinations for common canine and feline diseases, routine parasite control (flea, tick, and worm treatments), and microchipping services.
- Diagnostic Services: Utilising modern equipment such as digital X-ray facilities, ultrasound, and an in-house laboratory for blood tests and other analyses, enabling rapid and accurate diagnosis of various conditions.
- Surgical Procedures: Performing a range of surgeries, from routine procedures like neutering (spaying and castration) to more complex soft tissue and potentially some orthopaedic surgeries in their state-of-the-art operating theatres.
- Dental Care: Offering a dedicated dental suite for professional dental cleaning, extractions, and advice on preventative oral hygiene.
- Consultations: Comprehensive veterinary consultations for illnesses, injuries, and ongoing health concerns, where vets discuss symptoms, conduct examinations, and formulate treatment plans.
- Separate Wards for Cats and Dogs: Dedicated and comfortable recovery areas designed to minimise stress for hospitalised patients.
- Nurse Clinics: Veterinary nurses often provide a range of services including weight management clinics, puppy and kitten checks, post-operative checks, and nail clipping.
- Exotic and Farm Animal Services: While primarily a small animal practice, some vets within the group may have special interests in exotic pets or farm animals, potentially offering services for these species.
- Emergency Care: Providing access to emergency veterinary services for critical cases, ensuring pets receive urgent attention when needed.
The new facilities suggest a strong capacity for a wide array of treatments, from routine to more advanced care.
White Oak Vets - Peterlee, in its new iteration, aims to offer several key features and highlights. It is important to acknowledge that while a positive customer review highlights exceptional care and a genuine love for animals, another expresses significant concerns regarding pricing transparency and value. This duality underscores the importance of thorough due diligence for pet owners.
- Modern, Purpose-Built Facilities: The clinic is housed in a brand-new, £1.1 million facility that is all on one level, providing full disabled access and ample space. This includes four consulting rooms, two state-of-the-art operating theatres, a dental suite, digital X-ray, and an in-house laboratory.
- Separate Waiting Areas and Wards for Cats and Dogs: This thoughtful design aims to reduce stress for both feline and canine patients, creating a calmer environment in the reception and during hospitalisation.
- Advanced Veterinary Equipment: Investment in the "latest" veterinary equipment ensures accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
- Dedicated and Caring Staff: As highlighted in a positive review, the team, specifically mentioning Charlotte, is praised for being "fabulous" and making the "dreaded vets as calm and friendly as possible" for pets. This suggests a genuine love for animals and a nurturing approach.
- Safe and Nurturing Environment: The positive feedback indicates that owners feel their pets are in a "safe and nurturing environment" and that staff have a "genuine love for the animals."
However, it is crucial for potential clients to be aware of the detailed concerns raised in another review regarding pricing. This client described a "horrendous price" quote for diagnostics, significantly higher than other local vets for the same service. This review highlights a perception of "overcharging" and advises others to "always ask for price before agreeing anything" and to "shop around." This suggests a need for clarity and transparency regarding costs to avoid client dissatisfaction, especially given the emotional vulnerability often associated with a pet's illness. While one customer praises the caring nature, the other customer's experience suggests a potential disconnect between perceived care and financial transparency.

In conclusion, White Oak Vets - Peterlee presents itself as a modern and well-equipped veterinary practice in County Durham, seeking to provide comprehensive care for local pets. Its brand-new facilities and the evident compassion from staff, as highlighted in one glowing review, are clear advantages, offering a comfortable and potentially less stressful environment for animals and their owners. For residents in Peterlee and surrounding areas, the accessibility of the retail park location and the advanced equipment are certainly beneficial.
However, prospective clients should engage with the practice with a proactive approach to understanding costs. The stark contrast in client experiences, particularly regarding pricing and perceived value, underscores the importance of obtaining clear quotes for procedures and being prepared to compare these with other local veterinary providers. While the dedicated care and nurturing environment are highly valued by some, the concerns raised about pricing suggest that future clients should exercise diligence. By doing so, pet owners can make informed decisions, ensuring their beloved companions receive both the compassionate care they deserve and a service that aligns with their expectations for fair pricing.

White Oak Vets - Peterlee Reviews
After losing my dogs brother 6 months ago due to hip dysplasia my girl his sister started limping, alarmed I saw vet, I was tearful and very upset that girl may have same crippling condition. got bloods done about 250, next step 4 xrays of hips and anesthetic quote was needed. Been doing dog self funding rescue and rehoming over 20 years, many medical bills paid for by myself Was shockto be quote 1200 plus. I explained I felt that was horrendous price. I was told with a gentle sweet voice, bills have gone up, staff wages have gone up etc. I bookrd my dog in and then phoned 3 other vets in area askingfor a price quote. The cheapest was 750, the 800 and last one was 860 max.The white Lion had a very bad reputation of over pricing and continue unnecessary of medication on a lot of its review.White Oak vets is a take over of white Lion, theyve just moved to Peterlee. Im disgusted that they appear to be continuing down the same road as White Lion was.Having people over an emotional barrel and then trying over charge even with a sweat caring voice is blood boiling. Please always ask for price before agreeing anything no matter how caring they seem. Shop around, you don't have to stay at any vets. I've just saved myself 400 hundred pounds by making 3 calls. Sadly in my view vets services are turning into a money sucking industry when you are at your most emotionally upset and vulnerable time when your fur baby is unwell. I feel I have been knocked down by a car and someone has tried to rob me.All my phone calls are recorded and happy to provide evidence of this experience. It seems it cheaper to use euthanasia rather than an xray. Only rich foolish people will be able to afford pets. Sadly vets comments suggest im emotional and poor. No im angry at being overcharged or ripped off by people, services that are suppose to help with a fair price. As a person that has self funded over 30k of treatment for rescued dogs over last 7 years alone, I have a good understand of prices of vets. Please see pic of bill I have paid for 4 xrays and service for same treatment I was quoted by White Oak vets at 1200. Please note 644 pounds opposed to their quote of 1200. Please shop around and learn. I would not return to this vets even if it was free, they have shown their true colours.
Jul 02, 2025 · SandraTCouldn’t fault them if I tried! The ladies at White Oak Vets have been fabulous, especially Charlotte! Who has made my kitty cats experience at the dreaded vets as calm and friendly as possible for them. It’s never nice leaving them but I do feel as though they’re in a safe and nurturing environment in their hands and they have a genuine love for the animals. Won’t take my pets anywhere else now I have them registered! Thank you for tKing extra special care of them x
Jul 10, 2025 · jlhxoAbsolutely terrible place. Took my dog there to have a lump looked at. Paid for the consultation, they then said it needed to be removed. They stated it might be cancerous but couldn’t check till after removed? Went through insurance with the procedure and they charged nearly £4000 for the operation and follow up appointments. Now over a year later they have came back to me wanting another amount of money for an admin cost to make the claim, more money for cream giving for the wound that was not covered and also saying excess not fully paid. I explained admin cost etc was not explained. I asked for proof of the cream to say I received this on different day so that I could see it wasn’t covered. They cannot give any proof etc. All they want is money.
