Durham Equine Practice Introduce
For horse and pony owners across County Durham, Northumberland, and parts of North Yorkshire, ensuring the robust health and optimal performance of their equine companions is a paramount concern. Durham Equine Practice, situated in Spennymoor, stands as a highly regarded and specialist veterinary service dedicated exclusively to horses, ponies, and donkeys. With a team passionate about equine health and welfare, this practice provides comprehensive and professional care, ranging from routine preventative measures to complex diagnostic investigations and compassionate end-of-life support.
The unique needs of horses require veterinary expertise that goes beyond that of small animal care. Durham Equine Practice understands the intricate physiology and specific demands placed upon equines, whether they are high-performance athletes, beloved leisure animals, or cherished companions. Their focus is on delivering gold-standard care, which involves not only treating illnesses and injuries but also partnering with owners to maintain long-term health, soundness, and overall well-being. This dedication is crucial for horse owners who invest significant time, effort, and emotional connection into their animals.
The practice prides itself on fostering strong relationships with its clients, valuing clear communication and providing ample time to discuss a horse's care and address any concerns. This client-centric approach, combined with a commitment to continuous professional development for their team, ensures that owners receive the best possible advice and treatment options. As part of the wider VetPartners group, Durham Equine Practice also benefits from a supportive network of veterinary teams across the UK, allowing them to draw on broader expertise and resources when needed.
Durham Equine Practice is conveniently located at Unit 41, Enterprise City, Meadowfield Ave, Spennymoor DL16 6JF, UK. Enterprise City is a commercial and industrial park, providing a practical and accessible base for an equine veterinary practice. Spennymoor itself is a market town in County Durham, making the practice accessible for horse owners across the county and neighbouring regions.
The location within Enterprise City means the practice benefits from good road links, providing straightforward access for horseboxes and trailers. While specific parking details for horseboxes aren't explicitly detailed on all public platforms, a dedicated equine practice in such a setting would be designed to accommodate the necessary vehicle sizes for transporting horses. This ease of access is vital for horse owners, as it reduces the logistical challenges often associated with veterinary visits for large animals, particularly during emergencies.
Given the nature of equine practice, the primary mode of access for clients bringing their horses will be by road. For general enquiries or for clients visiting the office without their horse, Spennymoor is served by local bus routes that connect it to other towns and villages in County Durham. The Enterprise City location may have bus stops within a reasonable distance, though specific routes should be checked. However, a key aspect of their service is also their ambulatory (mobile) service, where vets travel directly to the horse's yard. This greatly enhances accessibility for horse owners, making their location less of a barrier for many routine and emergency services.
Durham Equine Practice offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, specifically tailored to the unique needs of horses, ponies, and donkeys. Their services include:

This wide array of services positions Durham Equine Practice as a full-service provider for equine health in the region.

While one review did highlight significant concerns regarding administrative issues related to insurance claims and communication, the overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding veterinary care itself, particularly the compassionate support during sensitive times, suggests that the clinical service provided by the veterinary team is of a high standard. Durham Equine Practice Reviews
Terrible admin, Sent me a hand written note 2years later saying I owed lots of money (thousands) because it was refused by the insurance and I had 7 days to pay. After lots of digging, They hadn't even sent it to the insurance for consideration. Insurance paid immediately. Not saying there's something dodgy going on internally but it felt like it. Especially from the defensive angry messages I got when I investigated myself.
Jul 10, 2025 · The WrightsDurham Equine is by far the best equine vets in have used and safely to say I wouldn't use any other. All the team are amazing but 3 year ago when my pony who I owned for 23 years was poorly, Kathryn was amazing and supported me fully right until the day she was PTS.If you have a horse/pony this is the practice to use
Jan 06, 2025 · PhilippaAbsolutely fantastic vets. They've been amazing for me came straight out in an emergency, always offering expert advice and being there at the end of a call or message to help out. Feel very happy to have my precious horse in their care.
Apr 20, 2023 · Gillian McKennaAbsolutely superb, caring service for all our horses. The practical , swift and effective treatment of my laminitic pony enabled him to remain in work for far longer than might have been the case. And when I lost my old, home bred boy i couldn't fault the sympathetic service I received. Would unreservedly recommend this practice. Just wish they did dogs too!
Apr 10, 2018 · Natalie RussellUsed this practice for years now and have never had any issues. No matter what vet comes out, your horse ALWAYS gets the correct treatment! There’s one vet in particular that really stands out for me and her name is Rueben! In 2021, we sadly lost one of our ponies. Rueben was very patient as saying goodbye was not easy for me! She was so understanding and caring. We have had Rueben out since then for our other ponies. Everything gets explained in as much detail as possible. She really takes her time to get to know you and your pony. Rueben also told me to ring the practice within a week to let them know either way how our pony is doing, that shows me that these guys care about the well-being of our ponies.Thank you to ALL of Durham Equine!
