For pet owners across England, particularly those in Sheffield and the surrounding areas of South Yorkshire, choosing a veterinary practice that truly understands and cares for their animal companions is a decision of great importance. In a world increasingly dominated by larger corporate chains, Green Veterinary Practice Ltd stands out as a proudly independent veterinary practice, committed to delivering high-quality, personalised healthcare for both small animals and equine companions.
Situated at Lightwood Barn, this practice combines the charm of a rural setting with modern veterinary capabilities. Green Veterinary Practice Ltd prides itself on being a friendly, approachable, and trustworthy group of professionals. Their mission is to ensure the highest standard of care for every patient, from beloved family pets to valued equine companions. This independent status allows them the freedom to choose their suppliers, referral centres, and laboratory services based purely on what is best for the patient, fostering a truly client-centric approach.
This article will delve into the unique offerings of Green Veterinary Practice Ltd, exploring its convenient location, the extensive range of veterinary services available for both small and large animals, its key features and highlights that set it apart, and essential contact information. Green Veterinary Practice Ltd is located at Lightwood Barn, Lightwood Ln, Sheffield S8 8BG, UK. This address places the practice in a more tranquil, semi-rural area of Sheffield, specifically within the Norton district. The setting at "Lightwood Barn" evokes a sense of peace and calm, which can be particularly beneficial for anxious pets who might find bustling urban clinics overwhelming. This natural environment contributes to a less stressful experience for animals and their owners.
Despite its serene setting, the cattery benefits from good accessibility. Lightwood Lane provides direct access, and the location is well-connected to various parts of Sheffield and wider South Yorkshire. For residents of Sheffield, Chesterfield, Dronfield, and other nearby towns and villages, the drive to Lightwood Lane is generally straightforward via established road networks. The S8 8BG postcode ensures easy navigation using GPS or online mapping services.
For those travelling by car, a rural or barn location often implies ample on-site parking, which is a significant advantage when transporting animals, especially larger pets or horses (given their equine services). This ease of parking contributes to a smoother and more convenient visit. While the practice has a rural feel, it remains readily accessible, striking a balance between a peaceful environment and practical reach for local pet owners.

This ensures continuous critical care.
- Equine Veterinary Services: A dedicated team of equine veterinary surgeons offering a wide range of services for horses, including ambulatory services (vet visits to yards), and on-site facilities like a barn with stables for inpatient care and purpose-built stocks for complex procedures. They also have use of a trot-up and school for lameness workups.

Green Veterinary Practice Ltd offers several compelling features and highlights that position it as a reputable choice for pet owners in Sheffield, though it is important to consider all aspects of customer feedback:
- Independent and Client-Focused: A significant highlight is their status as an independently run veterinary practice. This means they are not constrained by corporate policies, allowing them the flexibility to "choose our suppliers, and where we refer our patients to" based on individual patient needs and client budgets. This ethos fosters a more personalised and responsive service, which is highly valued by many pet owners.
- Comprehensive 24/7 In-House Emergency Care: Unlike many practices that outsource their out-of-hours care, Green Vets offers an in-house emergency service for its registered clients. This means owners can call their regular number at any time to speak directly with one of their duty vets or nurses, providing immediate advice and seamless continuity of care during emergencies, which is a major reassurance.
- Highly Responsive Ownership and Management: The exemplary response from the owner to a client's expressed concerns (ringing within 2 hours on a Sunday, showing "empathy and compassion") demonstrates a strong commitment to client satisfaction and effective issue resolution. This highlights a dedication to service quality and building client trust.
- Compassionate and Helpful Staff: Positive feedback consistently praises the staff for being "so helpful and kind" and for showing "so much empathy and compassion." Specific mention of "the vet Ana was lovely" and Claire the veterinary nurse being "so helpful and kind" indicates a team that prioritises the emotional well-being of both pets and their owners. This caring approach is vital, especially when pets are unwell.
- Dual Small Animal & Equine Services: The presence of both a dedicated small animal practice and an equine veterinary team on the same site at Lightwood Barn is a unique and convenient feature for owners with both types of animals. This integrated approach can simplify veterinary care for multi-species households.
- Rural Setting with Good Accessibility: The location at Lightwood Barn offers a calm and less intimidating environment for pets compared to busy urban clinics, while still being easily accessible for residents of Sheffield and surrounding areas. This balance is ideal for reducing stress during vet visits.
However, it is also important to address a point of feedback regarding customer experience:
- Reception Staff Interaction: One review noted issues with "reception staff personality" being "none existent" and a high desk impeding greetings, suggesting a need for improved customer service skills at the front desk. While the clinical staff are highly praised, initial contact points are crucial for a positive overall experience.

Green Veterinary Practice Ltd Reviews
This was our first visit. Would have been 5 stars, the vet Ana was lovely. The reception staff personality was none existent. The desk is so high when you walk in you can't see them, it needs to be smaller so that they can greet customers and animals. Not sure if they would manage this though as they didn't have any customer skills.
Jun 19, 2025 · Karen KnoxAfter having a couple of issues, the owner of the veterinary rang me within 2 hours of me expressing my concerns (on a Sunday too). They quickly and efficiently dealt with the situation and it showed how much they care about their clients. I can’t thank the staff enough and a big thank you to Claire the veterinary nurse for being so helpful and kind and also the owners who showed so much empathy and compassion. Thank you again. 🙏🏼x
Mar 24, 2025 · Eli JadeCan't fault this vets at all, another visit today rang in the morning and managed to get the same day. They did muzzle my pooch which he would never hurt a fly but I fully accept a vet wouldn't know this, much to my dogs disgust, he probably found that worse than the needle. The lovely vet gave lots of cuddles and treats after so they were friends again. I honestly wouldn't use any other vets now. Thankyou
May 16, 2025 · Keeley WhithamBeen using this vets for many years. Exceptional service, great price.Staff are all friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Can't fault them at all.
May 29, 2025 · Paul RothwellThis used to be a lovely caring practice but sadly had gradually gone downhill in terms of costs and also service. The final straw was when we took one of our cats to have her mouth checked as she was bleeding only to have a vet bearly even look at her and say she might bite. We have now found another practice whom we have entrusted the welfare of our cats to.
