Rainbow Equine Hospital Reviews
Our horses have been with Rainbow for getting on for 30 years and we wouldn't consider going elsewhere. We have seen it grow from a 3-vet practice to the much larger hospital it is today but despite Rainbow's growth and success, its staff have never lost their personal, friendly touch. Over the years, the vets there have provided a consistently high level of expertise and professionalism. Would not hesitate to recommend.
May 27, 2025 · Amanda PickeringWhere to even start with this review… rainbow saved my pony and provided more than a 5 star service throughout the full period my pony was there. To cut a very long story short-My mare, who has previous history of hock arthritis had became lame again around May 2023, I organised with my local vet for some steroid injections to be given to my mare and they worked at first. However, my worst nightmare began, my mare couldn’t weight bare at all and was hopping around on 3 legs. After eventually managing to convince my local vet to come back out, tests were ran for a septic joint. I received a call on the Saturday and it was advised my mare had a septic joint and her best route of treatment was surgery and I had planned with my vets to take my mare the coming Monday. I then received a call from Jonathan at Rainbow not long after who advised my best chance at saving her would be to take her that same day before 8pm. We discussed options and I agreed to take her that day. I arrived with my pony after travelling her from up north and I was greeted in such a caring manner by all the members of staff present and myself and my pony were taken up to the barn where she would be receiving surgery. I said my goodbyes for that day as we were unsure of the outcome at that time and I left and returned home from the night. Just before midnight, I received a phonecall from Jonathan to advise everything had went well and my pony was coming round nicely. I had a holiday planned just a few days after and eventually decided I would still go on my holiday as everything was going well and I had arrangements with my parents etc regarding my pony. I had visited my pony before I left and she seemed to be doing well. Not even 24 hours after leaving the country I got a dreaded phone-call to advise the count for the septic joint had gone back up and she would need another surgery, I agreed immediately to this and again Jonathan completed the surgery and rang me to advise everything went well. My pony was improving daily… until she became reluctant to stand and was laying down for long periods of time again. My pony was then diagnosed with laminitis and rotation in all four. This was an extremely long journey which we weren’t sure my pony would recover from but to cut things short, everyone at rainbow saved my pony and I will be forever grateful for the lengths all of the staff went to to make sure I knew what was going on and the best course of action to take at all times. My pony would not be here today if it was not for everyone at rainbow. They are so understanding when it comes to making payment and are so approachable regarding everything.I would just like to say thanks again for saving my pony and I would highly recommend this equine hospital to anyone that asks!
Apr 30, 2024 · Katie RathboneAll I can say is wow !!!!What an amazing team. My horse sustained an injury in the field which unfortunately needed surgery. Rainbow were amazing with my horse and with me. A huge thank you to Matt who sorted my lad out and updated me daily with his progress. Absolutely 5 star treatment.
Apr 28, 2024 · Leigh NouchIt saddens me to say this but my Percheron mare came down with colic, we were told by Oaklands Vets that we should go down the line of operating, we agreed as she was only 6, we agreed, after trying hard to find a hospital close by to go to Rainbows as they would be waiting to do the operation when we got there, we had to travel with poor Nancy for 2 hrs. We got there and the team were friendly and welcoming, however the surgeon was not there waiting, we had to leave to get back home for the kids, I asked is the surgeon coming, she said he is on his way. At approx 5/6 pm the surgeon operated. They found a compaction, they removed it, they told me her small intestine looked very angry, however she had a 75% chance of surviving, next day she was still refluxing, gut wasn’t working, she was fed by drip and given morphine for the pain. Her heart rate was still up but the refluxing had lessened, they then told me the next day that they would need to do another operation on our Nancy, bearing in mind this mare is a tonne weight, 18hh. I asked why???? We want to take another look, see if there is another complication, I agreed, to cut a long story short. After the second op they told me that they found nothing, however her incision had been compromised, basically the stitches had come away, they had to put in a wire to hold it all together. Poor mare. She seemed to become worse after that, her heart rate never came back down and after giving her a dose of the more expensive drugs, that usually bring horses back from the depths of despair, two hrs after these Miri ale drugs were administered I was told she must be put to sleep, she had a turn for the worse. I’m not blaming anyone as I have no evidence of any wrong doing, but I do t even have a break doesn’t if the coatings, £10,000 later, well £9000, they gave us a 10% discount only because we asked! In hindsight, I wish I just left her at home and had her put to sleep. We tried but I guess we will never know what went on in the operating theatre. All I can do is hope that she didn’t suffer too much but I think my poor mare did. RIP BEAUTIFUL GIRL…we tried our best .
Jul 23, 2022 · Louisa DeanI have used this veterinary practice for the best part of 20 years. I cannot thank the whole team enough from admin, grooms, nurses and the vets. My horses have had the best care throughout. One thing I can say is the care and compassion they have when your horse passes is exceptional. I have had such good support with losing two of my horses/ponies due to old age over this last few years. The team made the process so much easier.Nothing is too much.As I always say to my liveries we are incredibly lucky to have such a good team and fantastic facilities just an hour away.Well done Team Rainbow and THANKYOU.
