When it comes to finding reliable, professional, and accessible veterinary care, understanding your local options is essential. In Cardiff, a remarkable facility stands out for its commitment to providing high-quality, affordable veterinary services, particularly for dogs: The Rescue Hotel Health Centre, also known as Teulu Vets. This overview aims to provide a comprehensive look at what makes this veterinary centre a valuable resource for the local community.
The Rescue Hotel Health Centre/Teulu Vets was born from a deep desire to improve the health and welfare of less fortunate dogs in South Wales. Recognizing the challenges many face in accessing mainstream veterinary practices due to cost, this centre was established with a clear mission: to make essential vet treatment both affordable and accessible to all. Operating as part of The Rescue Hotel Charity (Registered Charity Number: 1189079), it not only serves the dogs within Cardiff Dogs Home but also extends its crucial services to the public. This dual focus ensures that both rescue animals and beloved family pets can receive the care they need, fostering healthier pet populations across the region.
The Rescue Hotel Health Centre/Teulu Vets is conveniently located within the grounds of Cardiff Dogs Home, making it a familiar and easy-to-find destination for many local residents. You can find them at:
Dogs Home, West Point Industrial Estate, Penarth Rd, Llandough, Cardiff CF11 8JQ, UK
This location in Llandough, Cardiff, benefits from its proximity to major road networks, making it accessible from various parts of Cardiff and the surrounding areas in South Wales. While situated within an industrial estate, the clear signage and association with Cardiff Dogs Home assist in easy navigation. Pet owners driving to the facility will appreciate the ease of access for dropping off and collecting their animals. It's important to note that the centre operates by appointment only, and while it's a dedicated facility for dogs, they operate a "one in/one out" policy where possible to manage the environment, particularly for nervous or reactive dogs. This thoughtful approach highlights their commitment to providing a calm and supportive experience for every animal.
The Rescue Hotel Health Centre/Teulu Vets focuses on core veterinary services that are crucial for preventative care and common procedures. Their offerings are designed to be both effective and affordable, catering specifically to canine patients.
- Vaccinations: Essential for protecting dogs from common and often serious diseases. They run very successful and busy vaccination clinics for the public's dogs, vaccinating around 50 every week.
- Neutering (Castration and Spaying): A key service for population control and promoting better health in individual animals. They offer affordable neutering services, often neutering over 20 dogs a week. This includes both male (castration) and female (spay) procedures for dogs from 6 months old.
- Basic Dentistry: Addressing common dental issues to improve overall health and comfort for dogs. While not a full-service dental practice, they provide selected dental procedures to meet basic needs.
- Flea and Worm Treatment: Routine preventative treatments to keep parasites at bay, contributing to the overall health and comfort of pets.
- Post-Operative Care: Providing diligent aftercare for animals undergoing surgery, ensuring a smooth and speedy recovery. Customer testimonials consistently praise the exceptional aftercare provided.
Several key aspects distinguish The Rescue Hotel Health Centre/Teulu Vets and make it a highly recommended choice for dog owners in Wales.
- Affordable Pricing: A core principle of the centre is to keep prices as low as possible, making basic vet treatment accessible to a wider range of pet owners who might otherwise struggle to afford necessary care. This commitment to affordability is a significant relief for many families.
- Specialisation in Canine Care: By focusing specifically on dogs, the centre can tailor its facilities, expertise, and environment to best suit the needs of canine patients. This specialized approach ensures a comfortable and less stressful experience for dogs, particularly those who might be reactive or have separation anxiety, as noted by appreciative clients. They are unable to offer appointments for cats or other pets, as the environment is primarily set up for dogs.
- Experienced and Compassionate Staff: Customer reviews consistently highlight the incredible team at Teulu Vets. Staff members are described as "amazing," going "above and beyond to put your mind at ease," and being "lovely people." The testimonials often praise specific individuals like Nurse Emma and Vet Jamie for their thoroughness, care, and ability to make both pets and owners feel at ease.
- Community-Focused Mission: As part of The Rescue Hotel Charity, the centre has a strong charitable ethos. Its primary aim is to improve the health and welfare of less fortunate dogs in South Wales, with public services helping to fund and support this broader mission. This commitment to animal welfare beyond individual appointments resonates deeply with many pet owners.
- Efficient and Supportive Process: The centre operates with clear procedures for appointments, drop-offs, and collections. They maintain open communication with pet owners throughout the day, providing updates on their dog's progress. This transparency and reassurance are highly valued by clients.

The Rescue Hotel Health Centre/Teulu Vets Reviews
Amazing service the staff go above and beyond to put your mind at ease and are lovely people. Affordable cost. Would definitely recommend as was recommended myself. My dog had surgery and was well looked after. Received brilliant aftercare and had a speedy recovery after having multiple teeth extracted. Can't thank them enough.
Jul 14, 2024 · ALEX MEYERI cannot recommend Teulu vets and their incredible team enough!!Our boy went in to be castrated and spoke to them prior due to him being quite reactive. They let us come down 15 mins earlier and went through everything in thorough detail and made myself and my partner feel at ease.Dropped off for 7:45 and received a phone call just after 11am to collect him, our boy (who has separation anxiety) immediately seemed comfortable and became besties with the staff. They even cut his nails whilst he was under.Nurse Emma and Vet Jamie, we will forever be grateful for all that you do!
Nov 06, 2024 · Keeks UWe took our chiuhuahua honey today to be spayed. It was a very easy process dropping her off and they gave very clear instructions on what to expect. We had a call a few hours later to pick her up.Honey although very 'out of it' looked very comfortable with Nurse Emma, which was so lovely and obviously knew alot about the breed, which we loved! She gave us tips and also advice following surgery based on breed specifics and also her own experience. Which helped alot. The receptionist also was very friendly and very professional :). The staff really did show great professionalism and knowledge too.For an £10 extra we received 5 days of Medications. Brilliant! On the way home in the car we also noticed that they had clipped honeys nails for us too (which we was going to get done soon) that was a lovely surprise, thank you!We also had the added bonus of seeing the beautiful dogs walking throughout the entrance of the rescue hotel. All the babies were beautiful and we had a few cuddles and fusses too :).Overall so far based on our experience today, it's been fantastic and we will 100% be recommending them. It's an good price for an amazing service. Thank you so much teulu vets. We shall see you soon with our other dog simba ❤️
Jul 11, 2023 · Amy WilliamsMy 2 year old ridgeback Sula was spayed at Teulu Vets at The Rescue Hotel 2 weeks ago. She is a nervous dog and was not the best patient but they handled her calmly and with professionalism and made her feel as calm as possible. The spay itself went perfectly and she healed astonishingly fast. I thoroughly recommend this place - it’s a budget price which is welcome these days - but certainly not a budget experience. Thank you!
Mar 29, 2023 · Raffi RidgebackAmazing service and aftercare for my XL bully who went in to be spayed, my dog loved the vets who handled her and was in and out within two hours with an amazing set of stitches, would recommend to anyone taking their pet there.
