Services Offered
- Dedicated Cat Boarding: Downs-Side Cattery specialises exclusively in providing accommodation for cats, ensuring an environment that is quiet, calm, and free from the presence of other types of animals that might cause stress.
- Individual Accommodation: Each cat is provided with its own clean and secure individual pen, designed to offer comfort and privacy during their stay. While specific details on pen size or features would require direct inquiry, the focus is on a personal space for each feline guest.
- Feeding and Hydration: Cats are fed according to their owners' instructions, with an emphasis on maintaining their regular dietary routines. Fresh water is always available. Owners typically provide their cat's preferred food to prevent digestive upset.
- Daily Health Checks: While not a veterinary clinic, the staff at Downs-Side Cattery would be expected to conduct daily visual checks on the cats to monitor their general well-being, appetite, and litter tray habits, reporting any concerns to the owner or a vet as necessary.
- Medication Administration: For cats requiring medication, it is advisable to discuss this directly with the cattery staff. Professional catteries often have protocols in place to administer prescribed medications as per veterinary instructions, provided clear guidance is given.
- Climate-Controlled Environment: While not explicitly stated in public information, reputable catteries often offer some form of temperature regulation within their facilities to ensure the comfort of their feline guests year-round, protecting them from extreme hot or cold weather.
- Play and Interaction: Depending on the individual cat's temperament and comfort level, staff may engage in gentle interaction and play to help reduce stress and ensure the cats receive some attention during their stay.

- Security Measures: Reputable catteries, including Downs-Side Cattery, would be expected to have appropriate security measures in place to ensure the safety and containment of all feline guests, preventing escapes and unauthorised access.
- Vaccination Requirement: Like all professional boarding facilities, Downs-Side Cattery requires up-to-date vaccination certificates for all cats entering their care. This is a standard and crucial health and safety measure to protect all animals within the facility.

Downs-Side Cattery Reviews
I have used Downside cattery for two years now as I was bought a kitten for Father’s Day. I work away frequently and find the staff and facilities very welcoming. Millie seems to enjoy her stays, although she’s a cat and I can’t ask her. David,,Simone and Caroline are always helpful. Will always use Downside. Can’t fault the service and value for money.
May 15, 2025 · Damien JonesIf I could give zero stars, I would. This has been an APPALLING EXPERIENCE.I phoned in the morning to collect our cat and politely (I am explaining everything literally) asked if it was possible to put him in his carrier before I arrived. The person abruptly replied, "What are you expecting me to do? Put him inside the carrier and take him out? What about the bill?"I didn’t understand the question, as all I had asked was whether it was possible to place him in the carrier. I explained this clearly and confirmed that of course I would be paying the bill. She then agreed to put him in the carrier.A few minutes later, she phoned back. She was extremely unprofessional, and the first thing she said was, "What do you expect me to do? Because you have a 'vicious' cat, I can't go near him," and she continued with her rudeness even though I remained calm.If they truly had experience with and love for cats, they would know that cats have different temperaments and must be handled with love, patience, and understanding. Labelling a cat as vicious simply because he is scared shows a lack of compassion and professionalism.I told her I was not happy with her attitude and explained that she could have simply and kindly informed me of the situation and asked me to do it myself when I arrived. As soon as I arrived, the first thing she asked was, "Are you paying the bill?"I was surprised by this question. I replied that of course I was. She then falsely claimed that I had told her over the phone that I wouldn’t pay.At this point, I had to say she I never said that. She insisted, but when I said I could prove that I never said it, she backtracked and said, "That’s what I understood," which made no sense because why wouldn’t I pay the bill?I took the cat while my husband stayed behind to settle the payment. She also complained that we hadn't brought an updated vaccination certificate. We brought on on his first visit however, they didn't ask one on this occasion, otherwise we would have brought it.Appalling customer service. No manners. No apologies, just constant attempts to justify their own poor behavior from the beginning. Now, they will probably respond to this review with yet another justification, when what they should be offering is an apology.
Apr 26, 2025 · Diana PetersMy Ragdoll recently stayed at this cattery for a week , he's not an easy cat to look after but Simone did everything I asked and she also messaged me to let me know how he was getting on as I was really worried about leaving him, she told me he was fine and when I collected him he was absolutely fine !All the accommodation is kept very clean, Simone was very friendly and I felt I could trust her to look after Lynx and if I need to use a cattery again in the future I will definitely return, thank you Simone and Casey ❤️
May 11, 2025 · Michelle ConwayThis was an extremely unpleasant experience. The staff were rude, unprofessional, and showed no real care or understanding for my cat. This was an extremely poor experience. The staff were unkind, unprofessional and showed no real care or understanding for my cat. Communication was unacceptable. There was no apology, only defensive behaviour. I do not recommend this place to anyone who values proper customer service and genuine care. They need to take feedback like this seriously and make major improvements to their attitude and professionalism.
Apr 26, 2025 · Antonio MoreaGreat care! Simone was absolutely lovely, and very kindly got there early as we'd had a long drive and she understood that the cats had already been in baskets for ages. Our two cats don't usually like each other, but they shared a Luxury Penthouse and have come out friends again... thank you so much! Thoroughly recommend.
