Mearley Veterinary Group has built a strong reputation for its commitment to excellent animal care, fostering an environment where both pets and their owners feel at ease. Their approach combines professional expertise with a genuine love for animals, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all creatures, from the familiar to the more unusual.
Mearley Veterinary Group's Barrowford practice is strategically located at 145A Gisburn Road, Barrowford, Nelson BB9 6HQ, UK. Gisburn Road is a key thoroughfare, making the clinic easily accessible for residents of Barrowford and the surrounding towns and villages in Lancashire, including Nelson itself.
The location on a main road means good connectivity, whether clients are travelling by car or utilising local public transport options. While specific details on dedicated parking at the Barrowford branch are not widely advertised, being situated within a residential/commercial area suggests reasonable accessibility for drop-offs and collections. It's noted in reviews that the entrance can sometimes resemble "just an ordinary house door from the outside," so first-time visitors may wish to keep an eye out for the exact entrance. Despite this, its presence in Barrowford provides a convenient and local option for pet owners, reducing travel time and stress for animals needing veterinary attention. The practice operates with specific opening hours, typically Monday to Friday, which are designed to accommodate a regular working week.
Mearley Veterinary Group, across its branches, including Barrowford, offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services designed to meet the diverse health needs of pets. While the Barrowford branch may operate as a smaller, local practice within the group, it provides essential primary care, with access to more advanced facilities at other group sites (like Accrington and Clitheroe if needed).
- Routine Consultations and Health Checks: Essential for preventative care, these appointments allow veterinarians to assess a pet's overall health, discuss any concerns, and provide advice on diet, exercise, and general well-being.
- Vaccinations: Comprehensive vaccination programmes are available for dogs, cats, and rabbits, ensuring protection against common and serious diseases.
- Parasite Control: Advice and treatments for effective flea, tick, and worm prevention and control.
- Microchipping: A crucial service for pet identification, aiding in the safe return of lost pets and a legal requirement for dogs in the UK. Nurse clinics can perform 2nd vaccinations and microchipping for new puppies or kittens.
- Nurse Clinics: Highly trained veterinary nurses offer a range of services that don't always require a vet, including nail clipping, anal gland expression, post-operative checks, stitch removal, wound dressing, nutrition advice, and general care advice.
- Dispensary: The clinic maintains a well-stocked dispensary for small animal medications, with options for ordering drugs for next-day delivery if not routinely kept in stock.
- Referral Services: For cases requiring more involved tests or specialist care, the group has in-house laboratory facilities at its larger branches (Accrington and Clitheroe) and links with external laboratory services and specialist referral centres.
- Out-of-Hours Emergency Care: While the Barrowford branch has specific hours and is closed on weekends, Mearley Veterinary Group ensures 24/7 emergency support through an arrangement with Vets Now 24-Hour Pet Emergency Hospital in Manchester. Clients are instructed to call the Clitheroe number in an emergency to be directed.
- Pet Health Club®: Mearley offers the Pet Health Club® plans, which help owners save money on routine healthcare costs, including vaccinations and year-round parasite prevention.
Mearley Veterinary Group in Barrowford stands out due to several key features that are consistently praised by its local clientele.

Vets like Anne and Rocco Simone are specifically praised for their "excellent and thorough" care, with Rocco Simone even making a typically anxious dog "actually like him," which is described as a rare and significant achievement.
- Compassionate and Caring Approach: Customers consistently highlight the team's genuine care and attention given to all animals. This is evident in pets, like "Merlin" the dog, eagerly anticipating their visits, a clear sign of a positive and trust-filled experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1At their Barrowford, Lancashire Practice, but attend others in group. All very clean. Receptionist's very obliging and pleasant, with a welcome smile. Vet, Anne, excellent and thorough. Our dog, Merlin, just loves seeing her. It can't wait to go in at any of the staff and Vets at the practice's attending, which is a good sign of care and attention given. This applied to all animals, birds we have taken there over the years. Note, just a client, not owner.
May 19 · Norman MitchellI have never been happy with vets. I have always felt they hurt my dog every time (not barrowford) so I was a little anxious about going today. My dog Roxy was seen by Rocco Simone? Honestly I have never come out of a vets happier. I will no longer want another vet only him. I highly recommend. Receptionist also lovely.Ps my dog actually liked him!! When does a dog like a vet? That never happens 😆
November 22 · Nicola BulcockFirst visit. Friendly receptionist. Lovely vet. Very informative and showed a genuine interest in my dog. Will be using permanently and will bring my cats too.
October 29 · Zoe WoodAmazing little vets - just a heads up when trying to find it that it just looks like an ordinary house door from the outside. Threw us a bit.Saw my cat Toffee as an emergency and quickly diagnosed him and administered a steroid injection which he didn't even notice and prescribed some antibiotics and special flea treatment after an allergy saw him in a bad way. Toffee is bright and happy again and is taking his antibiotics like a trooper. She was kind as was the receptionist and saw to him quickly as she could see he was distressed. She didn't even mind that poor Toff had an accident due to stress.Very reasonably priced and a lovely clean environment.Thank you ❤️
April 25 · Leanne TaylorAmazing practice, made to feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. Felt at ease when I am there with my dog and nothing is too much. Would highly recommend!
