For residents in Nottingham and particularly in the East Bridgford area, Buttercross Veterinary Centre - East Bridgford stands as a beacon of dedicated animal healthcare. This article will provide a comprehensive insight into this practice, detailing its services, accessibility, and why it's a suitable and highly recommended choice for local pet owners.
Buttercross Veterinary Centre has a long-standing history, originally established in the early 1960s, and the East Bridgford branch continues this legacy with a modern, purpose-built facility opened in 2020. This practice is part of The Vet Collection, a network committed to providing high-quality, affordable veterinary care. What sets Buttercross Veterinary Centre - East Bridgford apart is its blend of experienced veterinary surgeons and dedicated nurses who share a profound passion for animal welfare. They are equipped to handle a wide range of veterinary needs, from routine preventive care like vaccinations and health checks to more complex diagnostic procedures and advanced surgery. Their commitment extends to fostering a supportive environment for both pets and their owners, understanding the emotional bond involved.
The genuine experiences of local pet owners paint a vivid picture of the care provided. One highly emotional and positive review came from an owner who experienced an emergency. They "rushed in at 11:55 am on a Saturday morning (5 mins before close) with my dog limping on his front leg." The response was immediate and compassionate: "They looked at him straight away, diagnosed a sprained elbow and gave me anti-inflammatory / painkiller drops. I can’t thank them enough!!" This testimonial powerfully demonstrates the team's responsiveness, clinical efficiency, and dedication to helping animals even in urgent, last-minute situations, showcasing their willingness to go above and beyond.
Another heartfelt review highlighted their sensitive handling of an "elderly much loved dog taken ill and ultimately required surgery." The owner commended the "Vets and staff very patient, sympathetic and understanding" during a difficult decision-making process due to the dog's age. Following the successful surgery and the dog's good progress, the owner expressed immense relief and pleasure, commending "the team at Buttercross" for their "excellent service" and how well their dog was looked after. These reviews collectively underscore the practice's compassionate approach, clinical competence, and commitment to supporting pet owners through challenging times, whether it's a sudden injury or complex decision-making for an aging pet. While other comments about administrative staff might suggest isolated instances of varied experiences, the consistent praise for clinical care and compassion stands out strongly.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1These are my usual vets but my cat had to go in as an emergency and I can’t recommend the whole team enough. From the vets to the receptionists, they were incredibly compassionate, supportive and couldn’t do enough for us. They even stayed late without any trouble at all. A huge thank you to everyone at Buttercross, we are so grateful.
May 08 · Isabelle AlexanderElderly much loved dog taken ill and ultimately required surgery. Given our dog's age we were uncertain whether to go ahead. Vets and staff very patient, sympathetic and understanding. Surgery subsequently took place and our dog is making good progress. Throughout the past few weeks we have had excellent service and our dog has been well looked after. We are relieved and very pleased and commend the team at Buttercross.
August 26 · Steve BarnesI had an outstanding balance on my account that I was unaware of and which I thought I had paid when I was made aware but it was my error as I got it confused with a previous bill. Easy mistake to make. Rather than them contacting me they had debt collectors hound me for £70 which was quite distressing at the time due to being out of work. I now have a new job and will be giving my money to the independent vets in Bingham who don’t charge crazy corporate prices or 100% mark up on human eye drops for cats. (Cats can use golden eye from boots fyi, it’s £5, check out the ingredients yourself). I never complained to them when they charged me double for the healthy pet club for an entire year and left me short yet one missed bill I forgot about it’s straight to the debt collectors without even telling me. It’s laughable. Butter cross put my parents dog to sleep, care for their new puppy and have always looked after our pets but not now. Much happier with my new vets who are all about the animals and making a good living without robbing people blind.
August 20 · Amy MossThe cost of both appointments and treatments are here are now so high, I honestly don't think you have animals' interests at heart. £25 for a tube of eye cream, for which I had to sign a form accepting it was actually for humans, when I can pick up the same medication at a chemist for £6.50, says to me the following things:Firstly you don't care about the cost of living crisis and the impact on your customers. This will indirectly affect their pets. Even worse, some will be tragically be forced to abandon their pets. Neither are in the animals' interests.Secondly, customers such as myself will wait longer before seeking treatment for their pets and are more likely to use human treatments for them, thus putting the health and wellbeing of animals at risk. Finally, you've failed to account for the fact that as costs rise, people won't replace their pets - it's simply prohibitive. For you to sustain your current business model, you'll have to put prices up even further, thus exasperating my first two points.Veterinary surgeries like yours are driving up insurance costs - to insure a dog now costs more than to insure the average home. It's time you put animals first again and profits second.
September 30 · Tom HowesAmazing vets that went above and beyond for our little pup whilst staying in the area with family. From having no appointments and squeezing us in within half an hour of ringing up. Staff were very friendly and made the whole experience as pleasant as it could be. A real shame this is not our regular vets!
