For pet and livestock owners across Northern Ireland, finding reliable, compassionate, and skilled veterinary care is fundamental to ensuring the health and well-being of their animals. Whether it's a routine check-up for a beloved family pet or urgent attention for a farm animal, having a trustworthy local vet can make all the difference. In the picturesque village of Millisle, near Newtownards, residents have access to Ferris Claire Veterinary Services, a practice that appears to serve a diverse clientele. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Ferris Claire Veterinary Services, helping users in the Northern Ireland region of the United Kingdom learn more about this place and its role in the local community.
Veterinary care is a cornerstone of responsible animal ownership, encompassing everything from preventative measures like vaccinations and parasite control to advanced diagnostics and surgical interventions. A local veterinary practice, especially one that caters to both companion animals and farm animals, plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of the entire animal population within a community. They offer not just medical treatment but also invaluable advice on nutrition, behaviour, and preventative health strategies, contributing significantly to animal welfare. Ferris Claire Veterinary Services, by its location and reported scope, positions itself as a key provider of these essential services for the Millisle area and beyond in County Down.
Ferris Claire Veterinary Services is conveniently located at 1 Killaughey Rd S, Millisle, Newtownards BT22 2DY, UK. This address places the practice on Killaughey Road South, a key thoroughfare leading into and out of Millisle. For residents of Millisle, Newtownards, Donaghadee, and the wider Ards Peninsula area, the location offers straightforward access. Being situated in a more rural-fringe setting often provides easier parking opportunities compared to busy town centres, which is a significant advantage when transporting animals, especially larger ones or those in distress. The proximity to rural areas also suggests an accessibility for farm animal visits. While specific public transport links directly to the exact location might vary, most animal owners typically travel by private vehicle to veterinary clinics, for which this location is well-suited. The tranquil surroundings, as noted by one customer observing "new born calves in the field beside the surgery," could also contribute to a less stressful environment for animals visiting the clinic.
Ferris Claire Veterinary Services appears to offer a comprehensive range of veterinary care, catering to a variety of species. Publicly available information and customer reviews indicate they serve both small companion animals and large farm animals. While specific details of every service would best be confirmed by contacting the practice directly, a general practice of this nature typically provides:
- General Health Consultations: Routine check-ups, health assessments, and preventative care advice for pets of all ages.
- Vaccinations and Parasite Control: Essential immunisations and treatments for common parasites like fleas, ticks, and worms.
- Surgical Procedures: Routine surgeries such as spaying and neutering, as well as addressing more complex soft tissue issues.
- Diagnostic Services: This would typically include in-house laboratory testing for blood, urine, and other samples, as well as diagnostic imaging like X-rays to aid in accurate diagnoses.
- Dental Care: Professional dental examinations, cleaning, and extractions to maintain oral hygiene and prevent related health problems.
- Microchipping: Permanent identification for pets, a legal requirement for dogs in Northern Ireland and highly recommended for cats.
- Nutritional Advice: Guidance on appropriate diets for different life stages, breeds, and specific health conditions.
- Emergency Care: While the level of in-house out-of-hours emergency care should always be verified, general practices typically offer or direct clients to emergency services.
- Farm Animal Services: The presence of calves near the surgery and general information suggest they also cater to livestock, providing essential care for the agricultural community. This could include herd health management, fertility services, and treatment for illnesses specific to farm animals.
Ferris Claire Veterinary Services possesses several notable features and highlights, as indicated by customer experiences. A significant positive aspect is the "Very friendly staff," which creates a welcoming and supportive environment for pet owners and their animals. This human element is crucial in veterinary care, as a comforting presence can alleviate anxiety for both the animal and the owner during what can often be stressful visits. The observation of "new born calves in the field beside the surgery" provides a unique glimpse into the practice's connection with local agriculture, suggesting a broad scope that extends beyond typical companion animal care. This implies a versatility and deep understanding of a wider array of animal health needs, which is a valuable asset in a rural community. Furthermore, the capacity to provide a "quick check up for our little 16 year old mini jack Russell" indicates a readiness to handle routine care efficiently. While one review points to challenges with new client intake and availability, the established clients generally report positive experiences, underscoring the friendly and caring approach of the existing team. The commitment to general and large animal care also points to a comprehensive service for the region.

Very friendly staff, an added bonus was seeing the new born calves in the field beside the surgery. A quick check up for our little 16 year old mini jack Russell.
May 02, 2025 · Laura CorriganOne star for answering the phone, unfortunately as having to look for a new Vet (due to incompetence and poor treatment from our old Veterinary Surgery, which all our dogs had been attending for over 30yrs), I had heard good reports about Ferris Claire, but now when I go to call them to make an appointment for advice and for them to see our wee Pug (who is off his food and losing weight), they say their…“too busy, full to capacity and not taking on any new clients, just go try else where, goodbye”.I called because we have a sick dog and we were turned away, was probably for the best, kinda had enough already of zero flexibility and zero compassionate companies.Hopefully we will find the right Vet for us and our dogs, one with compassion and maybe even a bit of flexibility, who can find the time to see a new wee client at some point this week, in their very busy schedule.
Jun 23, 2025 · David HunterClaire is an amazing vet. She's been vet to all 6 of my dogs (only 2 remaining) and she cares so much about the animals in her care. Such a great vet!
Mar 01, 2025 · Lynne AtchisonI have been with Vet Claire for nearly 15 yrs since she treated my last rescue dog for seizures. He managed to live 9 yrs with me, astounding us all. Her knowledge and care for animals is excellent, alongside empathy for owner.
