---For dog owners in Newcastle upon Tyne and the surrounding areas, The Dog Grocer is more than just a convenient local pet store; it's an indispensable resource and a cherished community asset. Its suitability for locals stems from several key factors that resonate deeply with the needs and desires of pet parents in England.
Firstly, its commitment to offering only the best for dogs means locals can shop with confidence, knowing that the treats, toys, and potentially food items are of high quality and selected with canine wellbeing in mind. In an increasingly health-conscious world for pets, having a local shop that prioritises natural and beneficial products is a significant advantage. This focus on quality helps ensure that our beloved companions receive the very best, contributing to their health and happiness.
Secondly, the exceptional knowledge and passion of the staff, particularly Jess and Libby, create a truly personalised and supportive experience. Locals aren't just making a purchase; they're gaining access to expert advice, friendly conversations, and a genuine connection with people who share their love for dogs. This level of customer service fosters trust and loyalty, making The Dog Grocer a go-to for guidance on everything from new treat recommendations to toy durability. It’s this human element that elevates it far beyond a simple retail transaction.
Furthermore, The Dog Grocer actively cultivates a strong, vibrant dog-loving community. Their monthly dog socials, often held in collaboration with local breweries, provide unique opportunities for dogs and their owners to socialise, make new friends, and enjoy shared experiences in a safe and welcoming environment. These events are not only fun but also strengthen local bonds among pet owners, creating a supportive network right on their doorstep. For many, these social gatherings are as much a reason to visit as the products themselves.
Finally, as an independent local business, The Dog Grocer embodies the spirit of community support. By choosing to shop here, locals are not only providing excellent care for their pets but also contributing directly to the local economy and helping to sustain a unique, community-focused enterprise. This aligns with a growing desire among consumers to support local businesses that offer specialised products and personalised service, rather than larger, often impersonal, chain stores.
In essence, The Dog Grocer is perfectly suited for locals because it offers a winning combination of high-quality products, expert and friendly service, a strong sense of community, and the inherent value of supporting an independent local business. It’s a place where dogs are celebrated, and their owners feel truly at home.

July 10 · Rosie BarkerReally lovely local shop doing brilliant things. Jess and the team are so friendly and super passionate about what they do. There’s a great range of natural treats and essentials, and they’re always happy to help if you need advice. It’s great to have somewhere like this in Heaton - and for those further afield, they deliver too! Definitely recommend for anyone looking for quality, well-sourced goodies for their dog.
July 09 · Lori CassonExcellent low waste dog shop, brilliant for the environment as well as the dogs! Ours loves all the natural treats and chews, and their own brand kibble (she won’t eat any other brands of kibble).Lots of great meal toppers and alternative treats and chews for dietary needs.Look out for occasional Block and Bottle butcher bones too!Would highly recommend.
July 09 · Cat DixonJess has been the biggest help since I got my black lab puppy at the end of last year. Whether it’s suggestions for places to walk him, what treats we should use for his training or how to manage his teething with different chews she has been absolutely invaluable. We’ve been using their dry food and relying on their great array of treats and chews all year and our puppy absolutely loves everything he has tried. A fantastic local business with a great community spirit.
