Vets for Pets - Sheffield Drakehouse

Unit 2, Drakehouse Retail Park, Sheffield S20 7JJ, UK

4.0
Quoted £35 for a Cat De Mat with a 15-minute appointment. It took 5 minutes to complete. I politely asked the vet if he could quickly clip the cat's nails. He obliged with no words.Came to pay and the bill had gone up from £35 to £61. They charged me £25 for the clipping of the nails and changed the quote for the demat to £38.Nice staff and manager, but really bad communication and IMO this comes down to greed.Left feeling that I’d be taken advantage of financially. It’s a shame people are so short sighted and money hungry. I wouldn’t use this vet again. - Adam Ellis

Location and Accessibility

Vets for Pets - Sheffield Drakehouse is strategically located at Unit 2, Drakehouse Retail Park, Sheffield S20 7JJ, UK. This position within a busy retail park offers significant advantages for pet owners in terms of convenience and accessibility. Drakehouse Retail Park is a prominent shopping destination in the south-eastern part of Sheffield, making the veterinary practice easily reachable for residents from areas like Mosborough, Beighton, Crystal Peaks, and beyond.

The location inside a Pets at Home store, as is common with many Vets for Pets branches, provides a seamless experience for pet owners, allowing them to combine veterinary visits with purchasing pet food and supplies. This convenience is highly valued by many. The retail park setting typically means ample, free on-site car parking, which is a major benefit for those transporting pets, especially unwell or anxious animals, avoiding the stress of searching for parking in more congested areas. Disabled public access is also available, ensuring the clinic is inclusive and accessible to all.

Furthermore, Drakehouse Retail Park benefits from excellent transport links. It is well-served by public transport, with tram stops (like Crystal Peaks or Drakehouse Lane on the blue line) and numerous bus routes just a short stroll away, making it accessible even for those without private vehicles. Road connections to Sheffield city centre and the M1 motorway are also straightforward, facilitating easy commuting from wider areas of South Yorkshire. This strategic location prioritises ease of access for the diverse needs of pet owners.

Features / Highlights

Vets for Pets - Sheffield Drakehouse possesses several key features and highlights that contribute to its reputation as a significant local veterinary service, though customer experiences can sometimes be varied:

  • Modern and Well-Equipped Practice: The clinic boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including an in-house lab, pharmacy, digital X-ray, and ultrasound. This advanced equipment allows for quick diagnostics and a wide range of treatments, ensuring pets receive high-quality medical care. The upcoming dental X-ray machine further enhances their diagnostic capabilities.
  • Dedicated and Professional Team: The clinic is staffed by a team of veterinary surgeons, qualified veterinary nurses, veterinary care assistants, and a supportive administrative team. Positive reviews frequently highlight the "outstanding care with warmth and professionalism" provided by the veterinarians and the staff's willingness to "take the time to explain treatments clearly."
  • Comprehensive Service Offering: As detailed in the "Services Offered" section, the practice covers a vast array of veterinary needs, from routine check-ups and preventative care through to complex surgical procedures and advanced diagnostics. This makes it a convenient "one-stop shop" for many pet owners.
  • Convenient Location and Accessibility: Being situated within Drakehouse Retail Park offers easy access, ample free parking, and integration with a Pets at Home store. The practice also benefits from excellent public transport links, making it highly accessible for a wide range of clients. Separate dog and cat wards are also designed to reduce stress during hospitalisation.
  • Focus on Communication and Follow-Up (as per positive feedback): Customers who have positive experiences commend the team for keeping them "informed with detailed explanations" and for actively "follow up to check on my pets." This level of communication is vital for building trust and ensuring continuity of care.
  • Pet Health Plans: The availability of various pet health plans helps make routine preventative care more affordable and manageable for pet owners, encouraging consistent health maintenance for their animals.

However, it is important to acknowledge that not all experiences are consistently positive, with a notable concern being:

  • Pricing Transparency and Communication of Costs: One review highlighted a significant discrepancy between an initial quote and the final bill, with additional charges for services not explicitly agreed upon upfront. This suggests an area where communication around pricing and potential extra costs needs to be clearer to prevent clients from feeling "taken advantage of financially" or experiencing "bad communication" regarding billing. For some, this has led to a perception of "greed" or being "money hungry."
