Gleno Veterinary Centre Ltd is a veterinary practice situated in Larne, Northern Ireland, intended to serve the local community with animal health services. As a veterinary centre, its primary function is to provide medical care for a range of animals. In the field of veterinary medicine, practices typically aim to offer comprehensive services that encompass preventative care, diagnostics, treatments, and often emergency support. For pet owners, the choice of a veterinary clinic is deeply personal, often relying on trust, professional competence, and empathetic communication. Public perception and direct experiences shared by other pet owners play a crucial role in forming this trust. While veterinary practices generally strive to maintain high standards of care, individual experiences can vary. It is important for potential clients to consider all available information, including feedback from other customers, to form a holistic view of the services and care provided. This allows for a more informed decision when selecting a veterinary partner for their cherished pets in Northern Ireland.
Gleno Veterinary Centre Ltd is located at 12 Ballyhone Rd, Larne BT40 3LW, UK. Larne is a town on the east coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland, known for its port and coastal scenery. Ballyhone Road is situated within the Larne area, making the veterinary centre accessible for residents within the town itself and the surrounding rural communities. For those travelling by car, the clinic's location on Ballyhone Road should provide relatively straightforward navigation. As is common with veterinary practices, especially those serving rural areas or on the outskirts of towns, there is typically a focus on providing adequate parking facilities for clients, which is convenient when transporting animals. While specific details on parking are not explicitly provided, it is a common expectation for such facilities to have accessible parking. Public transport options in rural and semi-rural areas like those surrounding Larne might be less frequent than in urban centres, so individuals relying on public transport should plan their journey accordingly, checking local bus routes and schedules. However, for the majority of pet owners in the Larne and wider County Antrim region who typically travel by car, the location on Ballyhone Road should be a practical and reachable destination for their veterinary needs.
While specific detailed service lists are not available from the provided customer reviews, a veterinary centre typically offers a range of services designed to cover the general health and well-being of animals. Based on common veterinary practice models and the nature of the reviews, Gleno Veterinary Centre Ltd would be expected to offer:
- General Consultations: Routine check-ups, vaccinations, parasite control (flea, tick, worming treatments), and general health advice for pets.
- Minor and Major Surgery: Common surgical procedures such as neutering (spaying and castrating), lump removals, and potentially more complex soft tissue surgeries.
- Emergency Care: As indicated by a review concerning a cat in labour, the clinic is expected to provide or advise on emergency veterinary care, though the quality of this service can vary.
- Euthanasia Services: Unfortunately, a part of veterinary care, euthanasia services are typically offered for animals at the end of their lives.
- Diagnostic Services: This would typically include basic in-house blood tests, urine analysis, and potentially external laboratory services for more comprehensive diagnostics. Imaging services like X-rays might also be available.
- Pain Management: As evidenced by one review mentioning "pain management for IVDD," the clinic would likely offer various options for managing chronic and acute pain in animals.
- Medication Dispensing: Providing prescribed medications for animals following diagnosis and treatment.
Based on the provided customer reviews, which contain both positive and critical feedback, here are some features and highlights to consider regarding Gleno Veterinary Centre Ltd:
- Accessible Location for Larne Residents: Situated on Ballyhone Road, it offers a local veterinary option for pet owners in Larne and the surrounding areas of County Antrim, providing convenience for routine and urgent visits.
However, it is crucial to also present the significant concerns raised by customers, as these directly impact the experience and should be considered by potential clients:
- Concerns Regarding Euthanasia Protocol: A customer reported a distressing experience where "no sedation was given prior to the main injection," resulting in their dog being "very distressed and had to be held down." This raises serious questions about the adherence to compassionate euthanasia protocols, which typically involve pre-sedation to ensure a peaceful passing. This led to a "not pleasant sight" as their "last vision of our dog."
- Issues with Emergency/Out-of-Hours Advice: Another review highlighted a critical incident involving a cat in labour, where the vet allegedly advised the owner "to leave her," leading to the death of a kitten and the cat nearly dying. Furthermore, the vet reportedly told the owner "to not ring him back," which is a severe concern regarding professional conduct and emergency response.
- Customer Dissatisfaction and Negative Recommendation: Both reviews conclude with strong negative recommendations ("I do not recommend this vets. Incompetent to say the least. Avoid!" and implied strong dissatisfaction).
These points represent significant highlights in terms of customer experience and should be carefully weighed by anyone considering this veterinary practice for their pets.

In conclusion, Gleno Veterinary Centre Ltd is a veterinary practice serving the community of Larne and surrounding areas in Northern Ireland. For locals seeking veterinary care, its accessible location on Ballyhone Road provides a convenient option. However, it is imperative for potential clients to carefully consider the experiences shared by previous customers, which raise significant concerns regarding aspects of their service. The feedback, specifically about the lack of sedation during euthanasia leading to distress and alleged unhelpful and unprofessional advice during a critical cat labour emergency, are serious points that prospective pet owners in Northern Ireland should be fully aware of. While veterinary practices are essential for animal health, choosing a vet involves finding a team that aligns with personal values regarding compassion, professionalism, and responsive care, especially in sensitive or urgent situations. Therefore, while Gleno Veterinary Centre Ltd exists as a local option, individuals are strongly advised to weigh these detailed customer experiences carefully against their own expectations for veterinary care before entrusting their beloved animal companions to this practice.

Gleno Veterinary Centre Ltd Reviews
Our family dog of 13 years old had to be PTS. Through out the procedure of this, no sedation was given prior to the main injection which meant our dog was very distressed and had to held down by 1 of the persons whilst the other person injected. Our last vision of our dog was not a pleasant sight to see therefore I do not recommend this vets. Incompetent to say the least. Avoid!
