Croft Veterinary Centres has been serving the community since 1992, building a reputation for treating pets as if they were their own. They understand the vital role pets play in family life and strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for both animals and their owners. Their ethos is built on patience, thoroughness, and a genuine desire to do the best possible for every pet that walks through their doors, from routine check-ups to more complex medical needs. This commitment to personalised and compassionate care sets them apart as a trusted local veterinary provider.
Croft Veterinary Centres - Bolsover is conveniently located at Unit 3, Sykes Retail Park, Bolsover, Chesterfield S44 6DJ, UK. This location within a retail park offers significant advantages in terms of accessibility for pet owners across Bolsover and the wider Chesterfield area of Derbyshire. Sykes Retail Park is likely to be easily identifiable and accessible via local road networks.
A key benefit of a retail park location is often the availability of ample free parking, which is a considerable convenience for pet owners, especially when transporting animals who may be anxious or unwell. The practice's presence in a modern retail setting can also make visits more straightforward. Their opening hours are designed to be accommodating for busy schedules, typically running from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays and 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM on Saturdays. This extended availability helps ensure that routine appointments can be fitted into a working week, further enhancing its accessibility for local residents.
Croft Veterinary Centres - Bolsover provides a comprehensive range of general veterinary services for small animals, focusing on preventative care, diagnostics, and treatment to ensure the long-term health and well-being of pets.
- Consultations and Appointments: They offer 15-minute consultations, allowing ample time for a thorough examination of your pet, discussion of concerns, development of a treatment plan, and answering any questions. This extended time is particularly beneficial for nervous or anxious pets, allowing them to relax. They also offer recheck consultations and specific consultations for small furry animals.
- Vaccinations: Comprehensive vaccination programs for dogs, cats, and rabbits, including primary courses and annual boosters, ensuring pets are protected against harmful diseases.
- Parasite Control: Advice and treatments for effective flea, tick, roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, tapeworm, coccidia, giardia, and tick prevention and control. They can create tailored parasite control programs.
- Microchipping: Essential for pet identification and reunion in case they get lost, and a legal requirement for dogs in the UK.
- In-House Laboratory: Equipped with an extensive on-site laboratory, allowing for vital test results within 15 minutes, which can be lifesaving in emergency situations.
- Diagnostic Services: Utilise modern equipment for diagnostic purposes, including ECGs to monitor heart activity.
- Nurse Clinics: Highly skilled veterinary nurses provide a range of services, including administering medications, providing behaviour and training advice, weight checks and weight management, and worming and flea treatments.

Croft Veterinary Centres - Bolsover is distinguished by several key features and aspects that significantly contribute to its suitability and reputation among local pet owners.
- Compassionate and Patient Staff: Reviews consistently highlight the "patient, compassionate and just all around lovely people." This level of empathy is crucial, especially during difficult times, and helps put both pets and owners at ease.
- Personalised Care and Recognition: The staff's ability to remember individual pets and "always seem to remember" clients' dogs, greeting them with "smiles and lots of loves," creates a highly personal and welcoming experience. This fosters a strong bond and trust.
- Independent, Family-Run Practice: Being independent and family-run allows for a more personal touch and a focus on long-term client relationships, rather than being driven solely by corporate policies. The founder, Pete, being from Bolsover, further enhances this community connection.
- Thorough Consultations: The 15-minute consultation slots allow for sufficient time to conduct a full examination, discuss concerns, and formulate a clear treatment plan, which is highly valued by clients.
- Exceptional Reception Support: Sally the receptionist receives special mentions for consistently going "above and beyond," showcasing the dedication of the entire team, not just the clinical staff.
- Quick Diagnostic Turnaround: The extensive on-site laboratory providing "vital test results within 15 minutes" is a critical feature, especially for emergencies, allowing for rapid diagnosis and intervention.
- Cost-Conscious Approach (Initial Experience): One reviewer initially praised the practice for not "charging a fortune" and providing clarity where a previous vet had not, indicating a commitment to transparent and reasonable pricing for routine care.
- Vetsure Accredited: This accreditation signifies adherence to high standards of veterinary care and professionalism.
However, it is also important to acknowledge that some concerns have been raised in more recent feedback, particularly regarding management of complex or chronic conditions and policy changes regarding medication dispensing, which some clients found to increase costs. This highlights the importance of open communication with the clinic, especially for pets with ongoing medical needs.

Croft Veterinary Centres - Bolsover Reviews
Forever grateful for everyone at Croft Vets Bolsover. They’re so patient, compassionate and just all around lovely people always wanting to do the best they possibly can for my pets. We’re always greeted with a smile and lots of loves for my dogs, which everyone always seems to remember! They truly do care. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there at our times of need.
Oct 10, 2023 · Bethany RoseInitially I left a five star review last year: However a lot of issues over the past year have forced me to update this review and I will be raising a complaint with them directly over these issues. Sadly feel very let down and have now moved to a different vets. Only thing I still can’t fault is the kindness of Sally the receptionist. I would advise if you have animals with complex history / medical issues to personally look elsewhere. It’s also worth noting that don’t be amazed they have won an award from Vet Help Direct as I went to publish an honest review twice on the site to reflect my feelings on how I felt myself and my animal were treated with the practice and they’ve not published the review as they allow the practice to review before it goes online.Another issue to note is if you have animals that require medication that cannot be purchased online or at a chemist due to veterinary regulations not allowing the product to be marketed, meaning you have no option to buy directly from the vets they’ve changed their rules where you have to take the entire tub of tablets from them in one go as opposed to just taking the amount you need that month. Making already expensive vet bills even more expensive when having to do that. Especially when you aren’t sure how much longer a pet would need them for.Old review:I do not think words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have to you for everything you've done for us in the short time of using the practice. We moved from a vets we were quite unhappy and who charged a fortune and left us leaving the vets with no idea what on earth was wrong and how to move forward. We will be eternally grateful to you for all the time you have given to us. You are all utterly amazing, the staff are so wonderful (Special mention to Sally who goes above and beyond every time I phone, we’ve practically visited every week since Christmas!
May 02, 2025 · LukeAndLauraA vets which clearly do put the animals welfare first.Having moved to Croft vets a few years ago after my local vets had been brought out and the caring atmosphere had disappeared I wasnt prepared for how much I would come too value this practice. Not long after registering my then two dogs at Bolsover I added a third. (Now 4)Something was soon apparent all wasn't right with my new puppy and although initial observation indicated no real issues the vets trusted my instinct and we began a two year battle with my dogs health. All along the way they have been there, from friendly and helpful reception staff who settle my nerves on a weekly basis, to the most incredible team of vets, vet nurses, assistants, and management. My dog is only living the life he is now due to this amazing team. The needs of my dogs have never been compromised and they have gone above and beyond to help him lead a normal life.We do still have a journey ahead of us but im assured he will continue to go from strength to strength thanks to the team at croft vets.A special thank you much go to Daves super vet kieran, Caroline, Emma, Danii, His Aunty Sally and Emily plus everyone of the amazing team that's helped him so far.Thank you from me, Baby Dave, Missy Moo, Wade Wilson and Bumblebee.
Jul 28, 2023 · Amy RoebuckThis is a hard Review as the Vets is amazing. The vet we have seen both times have been the best and overall the cost hasn’t been to bad. My only criticism would be giving me eye drops for my cats conjunctivitis. The printer label saying for Animal use only but the box having human instructions on it and the leaflet inside being for humans. I could have gone to the chemist and brought the exact same stuff for £30 less… I get businesses have to make a profit and pay for the best staff but I think this is wrong…
May 26, 2022 · Leiane WagstaffThankyou again Crofts my little old lady who comes from ferral beginnings had a full dental, bloods done and manicure the vet was Caraline who explained everything clearly to me. My cat had dental work at Crofts. Very happy with them, it cost almost half what was estimated at another leading vet. my little ginger man was well looked after. thankyou to all at crofts.
