4.0
100% recommendation. We relocated to Retford 6 months ago which forced a change of vets on us. The change made us nervous as our pets’ welfare is paramount. However as soon as we met Mike we had 100% confidence in him. He was calm , caring, confident. Knowledgable, professional and thorough with our pets. With us he was personable, empathetic. reassuring and very approachable. We walked away from our first appointment supremely confident our pets were in good hands.Unfortunately for us this trust was tested very quickly as our dog became very seriously ill and diabetes was diagnosed. Mike and his team rapidly proved our confidence was correctly placed and in the last 6 months we have received exemplary service. We can not fault any of the Portland vets whatsoever. After many visits to the vets and phone calls we think our dog is just about regulated 🤞🤞. Even if she isn’t, we are 100% confident she is in the best hands possible with Mike and his team.Yes, the reception area is jaded, crowded and in need of a re-deco, but don’t let that put you off. I would rather have the quality veterinary care than a push waiting room. - Sandra Hedley

  • Farm Animal Services: Offering a number of services for livestock such as cattle, sheep, and goats, focusing on health, productivity, routine checks, preventative treatments, diagnostics, and emergency support.

  • Consultations: Standard veterinary consultations and nurse appointments are offered to address health concerns and provide expert advice.

  • Vaccinations: Comprehensive vaccination programmes for cats, dogs, and rabbits, including annual boosters, to protect pets from infectious diseases.

  • Highly Trustworthy Team: The most prominent highlight is the deep trust clients place in the veterinary team, particularly "Mike" and "Jenny," who are praised for being "calm, caring, confident, knowledgeable, professional and thorough." This creates immense peace of mind for pet owners, especially during serious illnesses like diabetes diagnosis.

  • Exemplary Service in Challenging Cases: Their ability to provide "exemplary service" during the complex management of a dog with newly diagnosed diabetes showcases their clinical expertise and dedication to patient care, even when faced with significant health challenges.

  • In-House 24/7 Emergency Service: A significant advantage is their commitment to providing their "own emergency service 365 days a year." This means pet owners have direct access to familiar veterinary professionals during out-of-hours situations, rather than being directed to an unfamiliar third-party provider.

  • Pet Health Club® for Affordable Care: The availability of a Pet Health Club helps make routine preventative healthcare more affordable and manageable for pet owners, encouraging consistent health maintenance.

  • Long-Standing Community Presence: With over 50 years of service, Portland House has deep roots in the Retford community, building strong relationships and a reputation for reliable, trusted care.
