Highwood Canine Hydrotherapy, located at Highwood Farm in Misson, Doncaster, stands as a dedicated and highly respected centre for specialist canine therapies. This facility focuses on utilising the therapeutic properties of water, combined with expert handling and a deep understanding of canine physiology, to aid recovery from injuries, manage chronic conditions, improve fitness, and enhance overall quality of life for dogs of all ages and abilities. With a team consistently praised for their welcoming nature, attentiveness, and genuine care, Highwood Canine Hydrotherapy aims to be an indispensable resource for pet parents seeking professional, compassionate, and effective treatments for their four-legged family members.
In the United Kingdom, particularly in regions like England, the understanding and demand for advanced pet rehabilitation services have grown significantly. Canine hydrotherapy is increasingly recognised by veterinary professionals and pet owners alike as a highly effective, low-impact exercise method. It's particularly beneficial for post-operative recovery, alleviating pain from conditions like arthritis and hip dysplasia, and improving mobility and muscle strength. A specialist centre like Highwood Canine Hydrotherapy plays a crucial role in providing these essential services, working in conjunction with veterinary referrals to deliver tailored treatment plans. Their expertise ensures that dogs receive safe, controlled, and beneficial aquatic exercise, supporting healthier, happier lives for countless canine companions across the local community.
Highwood Canine Hydrotherapy is situated at Highwood Farm, Sutcliffe Farmers Ltd, Bracken Hill Ln, Misson, Doncaster DN10 6EP, UK. This location places it in a peaceful, rural setting, offering a calm environment for dogs which can be particularly beneficial for those who are anxious or in pain. Despite its rural address, Misson is well-connected and easily accessible from Doncaster and other surrounding towns in South Yorkshire, as well as parts of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
For customers travelling by car, the farm location typically means ample and convenient parking directly on-site. This is a significant advantage when transporting dogs, especially those with mobility issues or post-operative restrictions, as it minimises the distance and difficulty of getting from the car to the therapy centre. Being located within a working farm also provides a serene atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of urban traffic, which can help to reduce stress for both dogs and their owners. While public transport might be less direct to such a rural location, the accessibility by car, combined with the beneficial environment, makes Highwood Canine Hydrotherapy a practical and desirable destination for specialist canine care for the wider regional community.
Highwood Canine Hydrotherapy offers a comprehensive range of specialist services focused on canine rehabilitation, fitness, and overall well-being. Their tailored approach ensures that each session is designed to meet the specific needs of the individual dog. Key services typically include:
Canine Hydrotherapy (Pool and Underwater Treadmill): This is their core service, utilising the therapeutic properties of heated water.
- Swimming Pool (Non-Weight Bearing): Ideal for full range of motion exercise, cardiovascular fitness, and building strength without joint impact.
- Underwater Treadmill (Semi-Weight Bearing): Allows for controlled movement and re-education of gait, with adjustable water levels and speed to target specific muscle groups and conditions.
Rehabilitation Programmes: Tailored plans to aid recovery from a wide range of conditions, including:
- Post-operative conditioning (e.g., after cruciate ligament surgery, fracture repair).
- Management of orthopaedic conditions (e.g., hip and elbow dysplasia, arthritis, spondylitis, luxating patellas).
- Spinal injuries and neurological conditions (e.g., IVDD, CDRM - Chronic Degenerative Radiculomyelopathy).
- Soft tissue injuries, muscle strengthening, and restoration.
Fitness Sessions: Designed to improve general fitness, cardiovascular stamina, muscle tone, and strength for active pet dogs, sporting dogs (agility, flyball), and working dogs, providing a safe and controlled aquatic exercise environment.
Laser Therapy (Class 3b): A non-invasive treatment that uses low-level laser light to reduce pain and inflammation, accelerate tissue repair, and promote healing. This can be used in conjunction with hydrotherapy to enhance results.
McTimoney Animal Chiropractic: Offered by a qualified McTimoney practitioner, this complementary therapy focuses on correcting musculoskeletal imbalances, particularly in the spine and pelvis, to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall function.
Qualified Hydrotherapists: All sessions are conducted by highly qualified and experienced hydrotherapists, many of whom are registered with professional bodies like the National Association of Registered Hydrotherapists (NARCH), ensuring professional and safe treatment.
Personalised Treatment Plans: Each dog undergoes an initial assessment, and treatment plans are continuously adjusted based on their progress and specific needs, ensuring the most effective outcomes.

Feb 27, 2023 · BLITZ 1768Everybody there are extremely professional and understand dogs needs. I have had both treadmill sessions and pool session and they are great with all my dogs including a scared Labrador who hated water and now loves it. Janet and Hayley are currently working with one of my dogs on the treadmill to build up strength and Alfie loves seeing them. I would highly recommend them
