The Reef Experience Reviews
First time visiting here and it won’t be the last, we currently have a tropical cichlid fish tank but we’re thinking of changing to marine fish eventually and popped in here as we’d been recommended by quite a few people. The staff are very knowledgeable and honest and gave us some good advice for starting out with marine fish. We’ll definitely be back in the future once we save up enough money to buy convert to marine fish. It’s just a shame that there’s not more shops specialising in marine fish in the north east as this and Maidenhead aquatics in Ponteland seem to be the only shops stocking marine fish.
April 27 · JenniferPopped in yesterday on my travels.Fab place.Well worth a drive away from the norm. An hour and a half away from home.Great display tanks.Clean.Best priced shop for livestock.Selling decent size corals and fish at a very acceptable cost. There are no visible signs of any pop eye or fish flicking on the glass or sand. It's definitely one of the best I've been to, and I've been to many over a 30-year fish keeping hobby.Totally recommend.5 Stars.
April 09 · MattI'm still upset after our visit to this establishment. As a parent and a fellow fishkeeper with over 10 years of experience, I was shocked and disappointed by the treatment we received. My 3-year-old son and I visited this store to explore the aquariums and make a purchase, but our excitement was short-lived.A customer complained that my child was talking too much, disrupting her peaceful browsing experience. Let me clarify - my child was not screaming, not running around, and not throwing a tantrum. He was simply talking, excitedly sharing his observations about the fish with me in our native language. As someone who's been in the fishkeeping business for over a decade, I'm well aware that loud noises can be stressful for fishes. However, my child's enthusiastic chatter was hardly excessive, and I couldn't exactly tape his mouth shut! What's more, we were almost done with our visit and were simply waiting to be served. A little bit of patience and understanding from the employee would have gone a long way. Instead, they asked us to leave solely because one customer couldn't browse in peace. Yes, you read that right - one single customer's complaint took precedence over our business. It's not like we were planning to stay there all day! A simple request to the complaining customer to have a little patience would have been appreciated, as we were nearing the end of our visit. But no, the staff member chose to prioritize the other customer's needs over mine, despite us being customers of equal standing.I want to make it clear that I'm not one of those parents who lets their kids run wild. I'm the first to take my children out of a situation when they're being too loud or getting out of control. But this was really not the case! My child was simply being a excited and curious kid, and I was proud of him for being interested in the fishes. I was stunned. As a paying customer who drove over an hour to visit this store, I expect a certain level of respect and accommodation. I've visited countless fish supply stores over the years (always with my children), and never - NEVER - have I received such treatment because of my children. On a positive note, I want to acknowledge that the shop itself is really well looked after, with a wide selection of products and livestock. It's truly a super shop! In fact, we were loyal customers of this shop about a year ago, when we were actively adding to our aquarium (always treated us AND my kida really nicely). We took a year-long break from making new purchases, but returned to the shop today, excited to start anew.Unfortunately, my experience today was a different story and I had to leave with a very upset toddler that cried all the way back home because we didn’t get the fishes. The staff member behavior was completely unacceptable, and I'm sad to say that I won't be returning to this shop again. It's a shame, because I used to love this place, but I won't support a business that doesn't welcome families with children.
April 01 · MartinaI visit The Reef Experience almost every week for water for top ups and water changes. Normally I will purchase something else whilst I’m in store in the form of fish or coral with the help and advice from Kieran, who has a very good knowledge of reef keeping and the advice is always appreciated. I’ve had a lot of success with my aquarium which is mostly from the support and recommendations I’ve had from the team members.Would recommend the Reef Experience to anyone who has a marine aquarium or is thinking of starting out in this hobby.Always a 5 star service and store that’s definitely worth a visit.
May 16 · MarcThis was my first visit to the shop. Excellent marine aquarium shop, staff very friendly and really helpful with advice about my marine tank. Will definitely be returning to the shop to purchase fish and corals and get advice in the future.
