Longthwaite Cattery, nestled within the tranquil gardens of a Georgian country house, offers just such a haven. Operated by Dr. Emma Creighton, this facility provides a dedicated boarding service, aiming to ensure a safe, comfortable, and stress-free stay for every guest.
Longthwaite Cattery is licensed and has been awarded a maximum 5-star rating by Allerdale Borough Council for the quality of its care and facilities. This recognition underscores their commitment to high standards within the boarding industry. The cattery's ethos centres on providing individualised attention, catering to each cat's unique personality, dietary needs, and any specific medical concerns. Beyond cats, the facility has also welcomed other small pets, demonstrating a broader capacity for animal care. For those seeking a quiet, rural setting where their pets can enjoy a calm environment while they are away, Longthwaite Cattery presents itself as a serene and professional option in Cumbria.

Longthwaite Cattery Reviews
I had 3 guinea pigs which had spent various short visits with Emma over the past 18months. The setup was a nice space for them. On the 1st visit usual required details were taken: my contact, registered vet details & diet. Emma advised against some of the vegetables I listed. I did not ask for this advice but she provided her opinion. This happened again on a later visit where Emma told me the hay I had been providing the guinea pigs with was 'crap'. Nonetheless, the cattery was convenient for me & spacious for the 3 of them & I had a lot of travel lined up with work/a holiday & with no family near by I over looked the comments & took the hay opinion on board with Emma being an 'animal behaviour specialist'. The last visit the 3 guinea pigs had was the longest stay of 2 weeks. I had assumed no news was good news. However, on collecting my pets 1 girl was soaked in her own poo and blood. Emma returned to me a heavily soiled tunnel (pictures on this review) which she had 'cleaned' 2 days prior. That night was spent washing blood & poo off my guinea pig. The next 4 days entailed 2 vet visits. In the first appointment my guinea pig was recorded to have lost a quarter of her body weight, receiving probiotics and critical care. 3 days later on the 2nd visit she was hospitalized prior to passing away hours later. Emma has not provided a reason why she didn't contact me or my vet when my guinea pig became ill. Going forward I cannot recommend Longthwaite Animal Care Center & I don't plan to holiday while I have pets after this experience.
Jun 16, 2025 · caroline lambertI have 2 cats who are 11 and have only ever stayed at a cattery once when they were 1 year old, because of this I was very nervous leaving them with Emma.I shouldn't have worried though because Emma was lovely, friendly and very welcoming, which put me very much at ease leaving them in her care. One of my cats is very much fuss on his terms and will not allow strangers to fuss or interact with him easily, Emma won him round very quickly and was on full fuss terms! Emma is also very knowledgeable and gave me some very good advice about my cats health. It is so peaceful there!I would highly recommend Longthwaite Cattery and will definitely leave my cats there in future!Thank you Emma 😊
May 18, 2023 · Teresa ByrneThe best cattery I've ever used. Our cats tell us how much they've enjoyed their stay each time they go. Lovely rural location, where only cats stay, and an owner who genuinely loves cats. No dogs to worry them. Highly recommended.
Jul 15, 2023 · Ally McGurkDilly loves to go and stay with her Auntie Emma at Longthwaite House! All the accommodations are large enough and warm during the cold days and during the night year-round. I've arrived early, without Emma knowing I was there and she was Chatting away to Dilly and her next door neighbour Molly as she did her morning chores, so I know she's well looked after. Her coat is as glossy as ever too, so she's being groomed. The location is paradise, surrounded by orchards and rare breed sheep and poultry. I recommend it to anyone who loves their cat.
Feb 02, 2019 · Christine GoodwinHighly recommended. Me and the moggies have had bad experiences at other catteries so to find somewhere as trustworthy as Emma's means we can go away without having to worry. Cats are well cared for and are content when I pick them up.
