Serenity Vet Services is a highly specialised veterinary practice dedicated almost exclusively to providing compassionate end-of-life care and euthanasia for pets in the comfort of their own homes. Their philosophy is rooted in the understanding that for many pets, particularly those who are elderly, unwell, or anxious, a trip to a traditional vet clinic for their final moments can be incredibly stressful and distressing. By bringing veterinary care directly to your home, Serenity Vet Services aims to create a calm, familiar, and loving environment for a pet's peaceful passing. This service is designed to make a profoundly difficult time as gentle and bearable as possible for both the pet and their grieving family. The service is founded on principles of empathy, patience, and dignity, ensuring that every step of the process is handled with the utmost care and respect. It offers a much-needed alternative to clinic-based euthanasia, prioritising the pet's emotional well-being and allowing owners to say goodbye in a private, unhurried, and intimate setting. This unique and vital service fills a crucial gap in veterinary care, providing invaluable support to pet owners across South Yorkshire and the wider England region.
Serenity Vet Services is based at Coach House, Barton Ln, Armthorpe, Doncaster DN3 3AA, UK. While this is their operational base, it is crucial to understand that Serenity Vet Services operates as a mobile, at-home veterinary service. This means they travel to your location, offering the utmost convenience and comfort for pets and their owners. Their service area extends across South Yorkshire, covering key towns and cities including Doncaster, Rotherham, Barnsley, Pontefract, Goole, Scunthorpe, Gainsborough, Retford, and Worksop. This extensive coverage ensures that a wide range of local users in England can access their specialised services without the need for stressful travel to a clinic. For pet owners who have mobility challenges, pets with severe anxiety about car journeys, or animals too frail to be moved, this at-home model is incredibly beneficial. The location in Armthorpe provides a central point from which their mobile veterinary professionals can efficiently reach clients throughout the region, offering a highly accessible and deeply personal service right to your doorstep, truly aligning with the needs of the local community.
Serenity Vet Services specialises in providing sensitive and comprehensive end-of-life care for pets in their familiar home environment. Their services are entirely focused on making a pet's final moments peaceful and supporting grieving owners. Key services include:
- At-Home Euthanasia: The core service involves a veterinary professional visiting your home to perform the euthanasia procedure. This allows pets to remain in their most comfortable and familiar surroundings, surrounded by their loved ones.
- Gentle Sedation: Before the final injection, a sedative is administered to help the pet calmly drift off to sleep, minimising any anxiety or discomfort. This ensures a peaceful transition, often with the pet simply falling asleep in their favourite spot, on their bed, or on their owner's lap.
- Time and Space for Goodbyes: The service is unhurried, allowing families ample time before, during, and after the procedure to say their goodbyes in a private and personal manner.
- Quality of Life Consultations: While not explicitly listed as a separate service, their approach implicitly includes discussions to help owners determine when the right time for euthanasia might be, providing support in navigating this difficult decision.
- Aftercare Options: They provide full aftercare services, understanding that decisions about a pet's remains are a crucial part of the grieving process. Options typically include:
- Individual Cremation: Where the pet is cremated alone, and their ashes are returned to the owner (often in a scatter tube, bamboo pouch, or various urns/keepsakes available through their crematorium partner).
- Group (Communal) Cremation: Several pets are cremated together, and ashes are scattered in a respectful manner, without return to the owner.
- Home Burial Advice: Guidance on the requirements and practicalities of burying a pet at home.
- Direct Transfer to Crematorium: For owners choosing cremation, the veterinary professional can take the pet directly to the crematorium after passing, easing this burden for the family. They work with a local independent pet crematorium for a caring service.
- Emotional Support: While not a formal counselling service, the compassionate approach of the veterinary team provides significant emotional support to grieving families during a profoundly difficult time.
Serenity Vet Services distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights, as consistently praised by their clients. These attributes make them a highly recommended choice for a deeply sensitive service:
- Unparalleled Compassion and Empathy: Reviews overwhelmingly highlight the profound kindness, understanding, and empathy demonstrated by the veterinary professionals, particularly Helen. They are praised for their "brilliant" and "very supportive" approach, making an "horrible situation so much more bearable."
- Peaceful At-Home Environment: The ability to provide euthanasia in the pet's familiar surroundings (home, garden, car) is a monumental feature. This significantly reduces stress and anxiety for the pet, allowing them to pass peacefully in a place where they feel safe and loved, often on their owner's lap or bed. This is a recurring and highly valued benefit.
- Personalised and Unhurried Process: Clients appreciate the time given to them and their pet before, during, and after the procedure. The vet explains "everything every step of the way" and allows families to "spend as much time as you need," which is crucial for a proper goodbye.
- Veterinarian's Familiarity (in some cases): As noted in one review, the relief of recognising the vet (Helen) from years prior adds an extra layer of comfort and trust, highlighting the professional longevity and community connection of their team members.
- Prioritising Pet Comfort: The focus on the pet's comfort as the absolute priority is a key highlight. The use of sedation before the final injection ensures a calm transition, eliminating fear and distress.
- Efficient and Sensitive Aftercare: Clients commend the swift and sensitive handling of aftercare, including the prompt return of ashes, which helps families in their grieving process.
- Understanding and Non-Judgemental Approach: The service is understanding of difficult decisions, even when owners change their minds (as with Toby), providing support without judgment.
- Ideal for Clinic-Averse Pets: For animals who "hated the vets" or for whom a clinic visit in their final moments "was not even an option," Serenity Vet Services provides an invaluable alternative, preventing last-minute stress.
- Professionalism with a Personal Touch: They combine the highest level of professional veterinary care with a deeply personal and humane approach, making a deeply painful experience as gentle as possible.

Serenity Vet Services Reviews
Thank you for such a peaceful ending to our dogs incredible life.Helen, the vet came out to our home, it's really strange as Helen was the very 1st vet we saw with Harley when we 1st brought him home over 12 years ago as she worked for a local vets practice. It was kind of a relief when she walked through the gate and we recognised her.She was brilliant, explained everything every step of the way.She gave us time and it was just so lovely Harley not been stressed. It was a lovely sunny day and he got to relax and pass very peacefully with us by his side in the garden. It made a horrible situation so much more bearable knowing we had his comfort as a priority.Highly recommend and can't thank you enough ❤️
Apr 08, 2025 · Gemz Bikini AthleteI contacted Serenity in 2023 as my boy had been diagnosed with CDRM and was starting to hav problems and considered letting him go before he got worse. We changed our mind and Serenity were very understanding. Luckily we had a lovely two further years with Toby that we didn't expect, a few weeks ago Toby's condition worsened and we decided now was the time so I contacted Serenity again. Throughout the whole process they were very supportive and I cannot thank them enough for the support and how quick you were able to get Tobys ashes back to us as soon as possible. We are absolutely broken hearted at losing him however if anyone was in a similar position to us I wouldn't hesitate in recommending serenity, Toby hated the vets so taking him to a practice in his last moments was not even an option for us. thank you for your help and support.
May 15, 2025 · Kellie ShawI would just like to thank you all for making the last journey for Charlie calm and comfortable as possible, Charlie was 14 and it was the biggest decision we had to make to pick up the phone but from me making the call to getting his ashes Serenity Vets made the whole process as calm and comfortable for Charlie as possible. When the vet came out she didn't rush us in any way at all she left us with Charlie and said take as much time as you it is a heartbreaking decision we had to make but Charlie his free from pain now thank you once again we would definitely recommend your kind service.
Mar 27, 2025 · Debbie ScottI just want to say thank you to all of the wonderful compassionate team at Serenity Vet Services. It’s taken me a while to write this but I’m finally coming to terms with the loss of my baby bear, Echo. Your lovely vet who made the process as nice as possible, then taking care of my boy afterwards, wrapping him in blankets, as well as the amazing caring team arranging his cremation and bringing his ashes safely back to us at home a few days later along with his footprints and a handwritten card which was so so thoughtful.I’m so grateful that your service exists because it made what was the worst day of our lives as peaceful for us as it could be. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of him, it breaks me, but then I think about the way he got to drift peacefully and happy at home with no zero stress, and his sister(our other dog) got to be next to him and it could put her mind at ease knowing he hadn’t just left the house one day and left her. And the fact that now me and my family can think about that moment and not be distraught but instead be at peace because of your service, is ultimately such a beautiful thing. Thank you again.
