Louisa Purkiss Veterinary Physiotherapy Introduce
For pet owners across England, particularly those in and around Leeds, ensuring their beloved animal companions lead a comfortable and active life is a top priority. As pets age or face orthopaedic challenges, specialised care becomes increasingly important. This is where Louisa Purkiss Veterinary Physiotherapy truly shines. Unlike a traditional veterinary clinic, Louisa offers a dedicated and expert service focused specifically on physiotherapy and rehabilitation for animals. Her approach is rooted in deep knowledge, immense patience, and profound kindness, making her an invaluable resource for pets recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions like arthritis, or simply looking to maintain optimal mobility in their senior years. Louisa Purkiss Veterinary Physiotherapy is dedicated to improving the physical well-being and overall quality of life for dogs and other small animals, allowing them to enjoy their golden years or bounce back from health setbacks with greater comfort and strength. Her commitment to tailored, compassionate care has earned her heartfelt recommendations from grateful pet owners throughout the region.
Louisa Purkiss Veterinary Physiotherapy is based at Cliff Rd, Woodhouse, Leeds LS6 2EZ, UK. While this provides a registered base for her practice, it is important to understand that veterinary physiotherapy services, especially for animals with mobility issues, are often best delivered in an environment where the animal feels most comfortable and can move naturally. This often means that Louisa operates as a mobile service, bringing her expertise directly to your pet, whether that's in your home or at another suitable location. This mobile approach significantly enhances accessibility for pet owners in Leeds and the surrounding areas of England, eliminating the stress and difficulty of transporting an unwell, anxious, or less mobile animal to a clinic. By providing in-home sessions, Louisa can assess your pet in their familiar surroundings, observe their movements in their natural habitat, and tailor exercises that can be easily incorporated into their daily routine. This convenience, coupled with her central Leeds base, makes her services highly practical and widely available to those seeking specialised physiotherapy for their pets across the region.
Louisa Purkiss Veterinary Physiotherapy offers a highly specialised range of services focused on improving animal mobility, managing pain, and enhancing overall physical well-being. These services are grounded in a thorough understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and rehabilitation techniques. Key offerings include:
Comprehensive Assessment: Louisa conducts incredibly thorough initial assessments to accurately diagnose musculoskeletal issues, evaluate gait, posture, muscle condition, and range of motion. This meticulous assessment forms the foundation for a highly individualised treatment plan.
Pain Management Strategies: Utilising various physiotherapy modalities and techniques to effectively manage chronic or acute pain stemming from conditions like arthritis, hip dysplasia, or post-surgical recovery.
Tailored Exercise Programmes: Designing and implementing specific exercises aimed at improving strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility. These exercises are often demonstrated to owners for daily home practice, empowering them to actively participate in their pet's recovery.
Rehabilitation Post-Injury or Surgery: Providing structured therapy programmes to aid recovery after injuries (e.g., cruciate ligament tears, spinal issues) or surgical procedures, helping pets regain function and prevent compensatory issues.
Mobility Improvement for Senior Pets: Specialising in helping older dogs and cats maintain and regain mobility, manage age-related conditions like arthritis, and improve their overall comfort and quality of life during their senior years.
Manual Therapies: Application of hands-on techniques such as massage, joint mobilisations, and stretches to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and increase joint flexibility.
Therapeutic Modalities: Potential use of equipment such as therapeutic ultrasound, laser therapy, or neuromuscular electrical stimulation, depending on the specific needs of the animal and the scope of practice.
Owner Education and Support: A crucial part of Louisa's service involves educating pet owners on their animal's condition, the purpose of specific exercises, and how they can best support their pet's rehabilitation at home. This collaborative approach ensures continuity of care.
Support for Chronic Conditions: Long-term management plans for conditions that cause persistent pain or mobility issues, focusing on maintaining comfort and preventing further deterioration.

I can't recommend Louisa highly enough. She's not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also deeply patient and kind. She worked with my 14-year-old Labrador during his final months, helping him stay as comfortable and mobile as possible despite advanced arthritis and hip dysplasia. Thanks to Louisa's expert care and tailored therapy, we were able to manage his pain much more effectively. The exercises she provided helped him regain some strength and mobility, which made a meaningful difference to his quality of life. Her dedication and kindness meant the world to both of us.If you have a senior dog, I truly encourage you to begin physiotherapy with Louisa, it can be life-changing.馃挍

Jan 28, 2025 路 Emma CarterI can't recommend Louisa enough! She's incredibly knowledgeable and so very patient with my very wriggly dog. My dog was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia early last year but thanks to Louisa's help she's now looking fitter and healthier than she ever has. We've even been able to start letting her run around off lead again which felt like it might never happen before we started working together.Louisa is excellent at explaining exercises and helping us understand how and when to increase difficulty or make things easier. She's always on hand to answer questions outside of sessions and is clearly so passionate about what she does.
Jan 28, 2025 路 Lauren WellsLouisa comes to my home to give my dog Lottie regular physio for hip dysplasia diagnosed when she was a pup but unable to have any operation. Lottie has a very stubborn streak and can take awhile to warm to you but we eventually she got there and now is very good for Louisa and gets excited when she arrives. And most of the time remain pain free. Would highly recommend Louisa for your dogs 馃惗
Jan 28, 2025 路 sadie masseyLouisa has been an exceptional physiotherapist for my puppy, Bisto, since he was 10 weeks old, tackling his rare and complex neurological condition, Neosporosis. Her use of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy has enabled Bisto to recently gain enough strength to maneuver on his three good legs; preparing him for his impending amputation. Her knowledge of canine anatomy and ability to demystify complex scientific concepts, has been so educational. Louisa has also been a great support for my husband and me during this challenging journey. Her patience and kindness have won Bisto鈥檚 heart, transforming what could have been stressful therapy sessions into moments of joy and excitement for him. As we look toward the future and Bisto's post-amputation recovery, we feel confident and positive around Bisto鈥檚 future.
