Located at 13 Huddersfield Rd, Skelmanthorpe, Huddersfield HD8 9AE, UK, Churchfield Veterinary Centre benefits from a strategic position that makes it highly accessible for residents of Skelmanthorpe and surrounding communities. Skelmanthorpe itself is a village within the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire, offering a pleasant semi-rural environment while remaining well-connected to larger towns. The centre's address on Huddersfield Road, a main thoroughfare, ensures ease of navigation for both those travelling by car and on foot. - Experienced and Adaptable Team: The staff are noted for their ability to handle a variety of animal temperaments, including pets that may be challenging or anxious during vet visits. This adaptability is crucial for ensuring a positive experience for all animals.
- Clear Communication: Pet owners appreciate the team's commitment to explaining procedures, diagnoses, and treatment plans thoroughly. This transparency helps owners feel informed and involved in their pet's care decisions.
- Professional and Firm Approach (when needed): Particularly for larger or more boisterous breeds, a professional yet firm approach is valued, ensuring the safety of both the pet and the veterinary staff while still providing excellent care.
- Local Convenience: For many, the primary draw is the centre's location. Being a local practice reduces the stress of travel for pets and makes it easier for owners to attend appointments.
However, it is important to acknowledge that like any service provider, there can be areas where improvements are sought. Some customer feedback has highlighted challenges with communication regarding unexpected closures and prescription pickups. While these appear to be administrative or logistical issues, perhaps related to unforeseen circumstances like building maintenance or staffing, the feedback suggests that clearer and more proactive communication about such disruptions would greatly benefit clients. Acknowledging and working to improve these aspects would further enhance the practice's already strong relationship with its clientele. The individual interactions with staff members are consistently praised for being "lovely," indicating a team that genuinely cares, even when administrative challenges arise.

Churchfield Veterinary Centre Reviews
An absolutely brilliant vets practise who are very adept at dealing with my German Shepherd, who can be very vet aggressive. The team here always treat him well, but are firm with him (you have to be) and they always explain to me what's going on and why. I wouldn't go anywhere else with my anti social, hooligan dog.
Aug 05, 2024 路 Deborah BoothI hate leaving negative reviews but we registered our cat a few months ago and it's been nothing but drama since the first visit. There have been lots of unexpected closures with no communication which is really disruptive, especially as we went for Churchfields because they were local and our cat doesn't travel well. They were closed a little while ago due to the roof being fixed which was understandable, but recently after requesting regular flea and worming prescriptions have had real difficulty as well.I received the text saying the prescription was ready when I was away from home. Tried to pick up last week as her medication was due on the 1st, but was told they were closed and would reopen today. Called Barnsley today, was told it would open from 4pm (leaving a two-hour window). My husband tried to drop in after 4 and they were still closed. Called Barnsley again, was told that the vet didn't have the key and was having to go and pick it up, and that after today they wouldn't be open again until 3rd September. We finally managed to get the medication a week late after my husband waited outside the clinic today until the vet arrived with the key at 5pm, but if we hadn't been able to do that we would have been up the proverbial creek until September. The people I've spoken to on the phone and during our visits have been lovely and I am sure it is nobody's fault in particular, but it's been extremely difficult and stressful trying to find out what is happening. If it's not too much of an administrative burden perhaps an email advising of closures where possible would be helpful to allow customers to plan ahead.I am still unsure of whether the closures are a regular thing or just a recent, short-term issue but we might need to consider going elsewhere if not resolved rather than putting our anxious cat through the drive to Barnsley.
Aug 07, 2024 路 Anna Scottbooked an apointment for a blood test for my little dog, got to the vets it was closed. Rang the branch in Barnsley. said to me yes it is closed at that time. You have been booked in wrong vets ( can you come to Barnsley). so what a waste of a 30mins car drive. I will be going somewhere else. No phone call to apologise !!!!
Oct 28, 2019 路 Rachel HirstWent with rescue hedgehog and they removed a tic n told me it was fine to be released . Took to a different vets for second opinion and they gave it emergency jab for fluids and weigh it and said it was 450g short of what it should be and would be fatal to release in its condition
