Reptile Hunters Introduce
For enthusiasts and owners of exotic pets across Northern Ireland, finding a dedicated and well-stocked specialist store can often be a challenge. While many general pet shops cater to cats and dogs, the unique requirements of reptiles and amphibians demand a different level of expertise and product range. This is where Reptile Hunters, located in Lisburn, aims to serve the community, positioning itself as a key resource for reptile and amphibian supplies, enclosures, and potentially, boarding services.
The world of exotic pet ownership is fascinating and rewarding, but it comes with a specific set of responsibilities, particularly concerning habitat, nutrition, and overall care. Owners of bearded dragons, snakes, tortoises, and other less conventional pets need access to specialist equipment like vivariums, heating lamps, specific substrates, and a variety of live or frozen foods. Reptile Hunters endeavours to meet these needs, striving to be a convenient local hub where enthusiasts can source their essentials and seek advice on maintaining the optimal environment for their cold-blooded companions. While the goal is to provide a comprehensive service, it is always advisable for customers to engage directly with the store to ensure their specific requirements can be met.
Reptile Hunters is located at 6 Young St, Lisburn BT27 5EA, UK. This address places the store within Lisburn, a vibrant city in Northern Ireland that serves as a significant hub for residents across County Antrim and beyond. Young Street is part of the urban fabric of Lisburn, offering a local presence for those seeking specialist pet supplies.
Lisburn benefits from excellent transport links, making it reasonably accessible from various parts of Northern Ireland. The city is directly connected to Belfast and other key areas via the M1 motorway, which facilitates travel by car. For individuals relying on public transport, Lisburn boasts a train station that is part of the Northern Ireland Railways network, offering connections to Belfast and other major towns. Additionally, various bus routes serve the city centre, from which Young Street would typically be within a manageable distance.
As with many urban areas, parking availability on Young Street itself might be limited; however, Lisburn city centre generally provides a range of public car parks within walking distance of its commercial areas. Visitors are encouraged to check local parking options upon arrival. The store's presence in Lisburn aims to provide a convenient, local option for specialist reptile and amphibian needs, reducing the need for lengthy journeys to procure essential items for these unique pets.
Reptile Hunters is a specialised pet store focusing primarily on the needs of reptiles and amphibians. While specific, detailed lists of every single product and service are best obtained directly from the store, based on its specialisation, general expectations for services offered by such a dedicated retailer typically include:
- Vivariums and Terrariums: A range of enclosures in various sizes suitable for different species of reptiles and amphibians, potentially including customisation or ordering services (as indicated by customer feedback regarding vivarium orders).
- Heating and Lighting Equipment: Essential equipment such as heat lamps, UV bulbs, ceramic heaters, thermostats, and associated fixtures crucial for maintaining appropriate environmental conditions within enclosures.
- Substrates and Decor: A variety of substrates (e.g., specific sands, barks, mosses) tailored to different reptile and amphibian habitats, along with decorative items like hides, branches, and artificial plants to enrich enclosures.
- Specialised Feeding: Offering a range of live feeder insects (crickets, mealworms, locusts), frozen rodents (mice, rats), and possibly specialised reptile foods and supplements.
- Health and Maintenance Products: Vitamins, calcium supplements, shedding aids, cleaning products for vivariums, and other general health-related items.
- Reptile and Amphibian Livestock: As a reptile store, it is highly likely they offer a selection of common reptile and amphibian species for sale, adhering to all relevant animal welfare and licensing regulations. (This is an assumption based on typical reptile store operations, and specific stock should be verified with the store directly).
- Boarding Services: Customer reviews indicate that the store has offered boarding services for reptiles, providing a temporary care solution for owners who are away.
Reptile Hunters aims to serve a niche but passionate community of exotic pet owners in Northern Ireland. While the provided customer reviews indicate some areas for improvement regarding customer service, the store's core features and highlights from a product and service perspective, assuming optimal operation, would typically include:
- Specialised Focus: The primary strength is its dedicated specialisation in reptiles and amphibians. This means the product range is highly curated for these animals, offering items not easily found in general pet shops.
- Variety of Specialist Supplies: The potential to stock a comprehensive range of vivariums, heating elements, lighting, specific substrates, and a variety of live and frozen feeds. This makes it a convenient single point of contact for many essential reptile care items.
- Boarding Facility: The availability of a boarding service for reptiles is a significant highlight for owners who need reliable care for their pets when travelling or away from home.
- Local Accessibility: Being situated in Lisburn, it provides a crucial local resource for exotic pet owners in the surrounding areas of Northern Ireland, reducing the need for extensive travel to larger, more distant specialist shops.
- Potential for Expert Advice: In an ideal specialist store, staff knowledge about the specific needs of reptiles and amphibians is a key feature, which can be invaluable for both new and experienced owners.
It is important to note that customer experiences can vary, and prospective customers are encouraged to visit the store, engage with the staff, and form their own assessment of the service and product quality.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The staff at this shop used to be very nice and we didnt have problems before but now they have new staff who are horrible. We left our bearded dragon with them for two weeks and my mum came in in advance to book it for a specific day, the guy said he will remember it and then when she came the guy said he doesnt recall anything like that happening, treating my mum with disrespect and telling her to stop talking and to shut up. Whenever we were picking our bearded dragon up after his stay we wanted to take him in our hands (hes very good with being handled) the guy insisted we take him in a box and said “he knows better” “hes been doing this for longer” he lifted my bearded dragon in a bad way- gripping his sides with one hand and lifting him with no support under - calling him a fattie and put him in the box for us. Honestly his attitude is terrible , full of vulgar language and we are not leaving our bearded dragon there again.
July 12 · Julia HadloReally bad customer service. At first I went into Lisburn branch to order a vivarium for a tortoise and when I asked for a 4ft, Clarkey insisted a 3ft was fine. I ordered it and the next day called back to say I wanted the 4ft one and can they please just order it.When it was ready to collect, I arrived at 10am when the shop was meant to open to collect as I had a busy day ahead, and had to wait for 50 minutes for him to arrive to open the shop. When he arrived he didn’t even apologise for being late and making me wait. He had such a bad attitude. The glass doors weren’t fitted in the vivarium and he just said that I can do that myself and I asked can he not just do it as I haven’t done it before and he was very condescending telling me it couldn’t be easier, how can you not do it?Overall really bad customer service, bad attitude and I will never be back. I will get everything I need for my tortoise elsewhere.
April 10 · Claire LolwanaAmazing service, couldnt recommended highly enough.Went to Lisburn branch few weeks ago as a total novice looking for advice on bearded dragons. Was greeted by Greg who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Greg answered all mine and my nine your old sons questions which put our minds at ease and gave us the confidence to purchase our fantastic orange bearded dragon. Greg was able to put together a bespoke start up package and on day of collection he spent time explaining exactly how to set everything up, what and when to feed, when to use lights etc... we left the shop with Burny and he's now happily settled and part of the family . Thanks Greg 😁 👍
August 29 · Nathan MurrayTwo overweight staff members at reptile hunters. Were extremely rude to me and my friend the second we got into the place. Terrible experience, terrible service and awful atmosphere. They told me they’d feed me to the water monitor if I don’t get out immediately. The only reason it’s a one star review is because I couldn’t give it less. Staff members smell worse than the animals. Ruined me and my friends day. I will be flying to the Amazon rainforest to get my eucalyptus from now on.
May 19 · Declan BlackMy daughter wanted a tortoise for Christmas this year so thought I would get it early just incase covid shuts the place down again. My son wants a snake so next week I'm taking him out to pick one,I dont know who's more excited, him to get a snake or me just to go out and visit this amazing shop again!
