Myerscough Veterinary Group Introduce
For pet owners throughout England, the choice of a veterinary practice is a deeply personal and crucial decision, impacting the health and well-being of cherished animal companions. This article focuses on Myerscough Veterinary Group, specifically addressing their presence in Freckleton, Preston, UK. Our aim is to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview, drawing from public information and local user experiences to offer a balanced perspective for potential clients in the region.
Myerscough Veterinary Group has historically been a well-known name in the North West, with a network of branches aiming to provide comprehensive veterinary care. Understanding the current landscape of their services, particularly in light of recent changes and developments, is essential for locals seeking reliable and accessible animal healthcare. We delve into their offerings, consider their accessibility, and explore the various aspects that make a veterinary practice suitable (or less suitable) for the everyday needs of pet owners in the United Kingdom.
The demand for high-quality veterinary services, encompassing everything from routine vaccinations to emergency care, is constant. Pet owners rightfully expect professional, compassionate, and transparent service. This overview will navigate the details of Myerscough Veterinary Group in Freckleton, providing factual insights to help you assess whether their current provisions align with your expectations for excellent veterinary care for your beloved animals.
Myerscough Veterinary Group's Freckleton branch is located at 24 Preston Old Rd, Freckleton, Preston PR4 1PD, UK. Freckleton is a village situated to the west of Preston, within Lancashire, making this location potentially convenient for residents in Freckleton itself, as well as those in nearby villages and the surrounding areas of Preston. The address on Preston Old Road suggests it is on a main thoroughfare, which typically enhances visibility and ease of access.
However, recent public feedback indicates that the accessibility and operational status of this specific branch have undergone significant changes. One customer review explicitly states, "the Freckleton branch are closed." This highlights a critical point of accessibility for local users, as the physical presence and immediate convenience that a local branch offers may no longer be available. If the Freckleton branch is indeed closed, clients who previously relied on this location would need to travel to other Myerscough Veterinary Group branches, such as those in Lytham or St. Annes, or seek alternative local veterinary care.
For those who may still consider other Myerscough Veterinary Group branches, their main centre is noted to be in Clayton Le Dale, on the A59, which is marketed as being "within easy reach of everyone across the North West." Other branches are listed in areas such as Oswaldtwistle, Ashton on Ribble, St Annes, Padiham, Bacup, Clitheroe, Haslingden, Leyland, Blackburn, and Darwen. Therefore, while the Freckleton location might have reduced accessibility due to closure, the wider Myerscough Veterinary Group network does provide alternative points of contact across Lancashire. It is always recommended to verify the current operating status and hours of any specific branch before planning a visit, especially given the reported changes.
While the status of the Freckleton branch itself may affect immediate local access to all services, Myerscough Veterinary Group, as a collective, typically offers a broad range of veterinary services for companion animals. Based on their overall group offerings, these generally include:
- Routine Consultations: General health check-ups, diagnostics for common ailments, and preventative advice.
- Vaccinations and Preventative Treatments: Standard vaccination courses for puppies, kittens, and adult boosters, along with flea, tick, and worming treatments.
- Neutering: Surgical procedures for both male and female cats and dogs.
- Microchipping: Essential for pet identification and mandated by law for dogs in the UK.
- Nurse Clinics: Appointments with qualified veterinary nurses for services such as nail clipping, anal gland emptying, weight management, and general health advice.
- Diagnostic Services: This would typically include in-house laboratory testing (blood, urine), radiography (X-rays), and potentially ultrasound capabilities to aid in diagnosing conditions.
- Surgical Procedures: Ranging from routine elective surgeries to more complex operations, depending on the facilities and specialist expertise available at specific larger branches within the group.
- Pet Health Club®: A membership scheme designed to help pet owners spread the cost of routine preventative healthcare throughout the year, often including vaccinations, parasite control, and health checks.
It is important to note that access to all these services, particularly more advanced diagnostics or complex surgeries, may be consolidated at larger or central branches of Myerscough Veterinary Group, rather than being available at every local branch, especially smaller ones or those that may have recently reduced operations. The "On The Road" services, or home visits, if offered by Myerscough Veterinary Group, would also be a relevant service to inquire about for local convenience.
Myerscough Veterinary Group, viewed historically and as part of its larger corporate structure, possesses several features that may be considered highlights, alongside certain areas of concern as reported by recent customer experiences:
- Extensive Network (Historically): Myerscough Veterinary Group has historically operated numerous branches across the North West, aiming to provide widespread access to veterinary care. While the Freckleton branch's status is in question, the group's broader presence means options might exist at other locations.
- Pet Health Club®: This initiative offers a structured way for pet owners to manage routine healthcare costs, which can be a valuable feature for budgeting and ensuring consistent preventative care.
- RCVS Accreditation (Likely for main centres): While not explicitly stated for every branch, a large veterinary group like Myerscough Veterinary Group (part of IVC Evidensia) is expected to have its main centres and potentially many branches accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) under their Practice Standards Scheme. This accreditation signifies adherence to high professional standards in areas like hygiene, equipment, and training.
- Corporate Backing (IVC Evidensia): Myerscough Veterinary Group is part of IVC Evidensia, a large international veterinary group. This corporate backing can provide access to significant resources, potentially including advanced equipment, broader specialist networks, and standardised protocols. However, it also brings some of the perceived drawbacks noted in customer feedback.
- Out-of-Hours Service (via VetsNow): Myerscough Veterinary Group partners with VetsNow for its out-of-hours emergency services. VetsNow is a dedicated emergency and critical care provider, meaning that in an emergency, animals are seen by a team focused solely on urgent care. This can be a benefit for round-the-clock coverage, although the associated costs and structure have been a point of concern for some clients, as detailed in the reviews.
It is crucial to acknowledge that recent customer reviews highlight significant shifts in perceived quality and service, specifically mentioning staff turnover, increased prescription costs, difficulty securing appointments, and issues with insurance claims. These concerns suggest a changing client experience that potential new users should be aware of.

For locals in Freckleton and the wider Preston area, the suitability of Myerscough Veterinary Group requires a nuanced consideration of its historical reputation versus recent reported changes. Historically, Myerscough Veterinary Group was lauded for its dedicated staff and quality of care, suggesting it was once a highly suitable option for local pet owners. Its broad network of branches across the North West also implies a wide reach and accessibility for many.
The availability of a Pet Health Club® is a positive aspect, offering a structured way to manage routine healthcare costs, which can be beneficial for pet owners looking to budget for preventative treatments. Furthermore, as part of IVC Evidensia, the group benefits from the resources and scale of a large corporate entity, which might translate to access to advanced equipment or broader expertise at their larger, central hospitals, and the peace of mind of having a dedicated out-of-hours service via VetsNow.
However, it is imperative for local users to be aware of the significant concerns raised in recent customer feedback. Reports of staff turnover, increased costs for prescriptions and services (particularly out-of-hours), difficulties in securing appointments, and issues with insurance claim processing are critical factors. The reported closure of the Freckleton branch itself is a major point of consideration for local convenience, necessitating travel to other locations and potentially impacting immediate accessibility for some.
For locals seeking veterinary care, the current situation with Myerscough Veterinary Group in Freckleton suggests that while the broader corporate group offers a range of services and a widespread network, potential clients should conduct thorough current research. It would be advisable to directly contact the specific branch intended for use, inquire about appointment availability, pricing transparency, and their current processes for insurance claims. While large corporate groups can offer benefits of scale, the personal touch and consistent reliability often found in independent practices are highly valued by pet owners. Therefore, locals are encouraged to weigh the reported experiences against their own priorities for cost, convenience, and continuity of care when considering Myerscough Veterinary Group.

Myerscough Veterinary Group Reviews
Used to be a little expensive but had some superb vets and nurses that cared a lot about the work they did.Unfortunately, this has now changed for the worse. A lot of the staff have moved on and the number of branches has been cut back, presumably because of difficulties in recruiting.Prescriptions are very expensive now. Getting appointments can be very difficult.Be wary of allowing MyVets to bill your insurer directly - Their insurance department have been less than organised, which, in our experience, has resulted in claims being put in late (over a year late!), being rejected by the insurer (understandably) and us being asked to pick up the bill. Duplicate claims aren't uncommon. MyVets don't appear to manage their accounts with clients properly, resulting in unexpected bills, with little explaination to what they are for or when.Their out of hours service they offered which was once excellent has now been replaced with VetsNow (which is part of the same group). VetsNow is in the business of extracting cash out of you at when you most need them (7pm on a friday when your dog has become unexplainably ill for example) - £69.00 Consultation Plus a £227.50 Out of hours fee, plus whatever the animal needs. It's worth mentioning MyVets is actually Independant Vetcare Limited, which is IVC Evidensia - Operating in 20 countries with 2,500 locations and showed a gross profit of £953 Million in 2022!IVC Evidensia / Independant Vetcare Limited and VetsNow are also all part of the same group (joined in Jan 2019)As I said at the start of this review, MyVets used to be excellent. They had very caring and experienced staff who clearly enjoyed what they do. I don't know where they went wrong, but it hasn't impacted their profitability!
Sep 07, 2023 · steve jonesBeen happy with them for a number of years but now the Freckleton branch are closed so booster vaccine I figured I’d have to go to Lytham or St Anne’s ten I find out no vet there either. After waiting and age for you to answer the phone after numerous tries. So I have transferred to a vet who are local, have vets and answer the phone!

Jul 13, 2021 · Lauren TaylorUnfortunately I couldn't get through on the phone to make an appointment but I have never had any trouble before. The pandemic has probably had a big part in this
