I am a pet sitter with significant experience with rabbits. I brought one of the rabbits I was pet sitting to Chris in an emergency after noticing that he was passing a lot of blood from his bladder. Two days previously, the bunny's owners had brought him in with symptoms similar to those of going into gastric stasis, a good indicator that a bunny may be in pain. The gold standard of treatment is to ensure adequate pain relief. The little bunny was not given any pain relief. I noticed he was going downhill and phoned to see if I could bring him in. I was told Chris would see him the following day and to keep trying with the current medication. Fast forward to the afternoon and things were going down hill, so I phoned again and was told to bring him in. Upon me taking him back to see Chris, he refused to give him any pain relief, opting for antibiotics in case of infection. He had a concern about pain reliefdue to potential kidney toxicity caused by dehydration, however told me he wasn't dehydrated at the time. I could also see his hydration was pretty good and I had been syringe feeding him in the morning with plenty of fluids. This struck me as a very peculiar decision to make and totally against my gut feeling and also vetinary advice given in similar situations in the past. I asked twice for pain relief and supportive subcutaneous fluids and was refused - just told to bring him back the following day for some antibiotics. By the time I'd got the little bunny back home, he was displaying signs of extreme pain and was passing an immense amount of blood from his bladder. I phoned Chris asking for pain relief and saying I could give him some as I had the relevant meds at home. His receptionist went to ask him and I was told 'Id rather you didn't, and we can review him in the morning.' I was absolutely horrified. I administered the pain relief I had at home (which didn't touch the pain by this point, he needs something more) and immediately took him to see another vet, who was a specialist in rabbits. He conducted a thorough investigation, listened to his gut sounds, respiratory and heart rate.(Chris didn't)He then felt his abdomen and discovered a solid mass, which he said would be difficult to miss. Chris had done a very quick abdominal check and said he couldn't feel anything in the bladder.The second vet went on to perform an ultrasound straight away, showing there was either a large bladder stone, a tumour or a compaction of something in the GI tract. He wanted to admit the little bunny for pain relief and sedation to keep him comfortable. His words were that it would be 'neglectful' not to do that and just send him home. As we were chatting, the little bunny passed away in my arms. It was all too much. His owners on holiday were absolutely heartbroken, as was I. The second vet could not comprehend why pain relief was witheld. Even if the scenario was palliative, this last day was harrowing for that little bunny. I feel Chris Mason failed this little bunny and his decision to refuse pain relief was inhumane. I am only grateful the second vet was thorough and treated him with the compassion and dignity he deserved. I would never take a rabbit to Chris Mason again, and due to being treated quite rudely at reception, I wouldn't register any other pets there either. Some other recent reviews are horrific - and I'm so sorry to all those pet owners who have been through so much suffering and loss.
May 02, 2025 · Gwen AngA few years ago I would have raved about Chris but the truth is, he is just too busy to give the time required to properly look at your pet.Over a good 1/2 year period I returned to Chris consistently with my Labrador Dexter, as I knew something wasn’t right with his stomach.Chris would feel his stomach and go nothing wrong. He did bloods on another occasion and decided he had liver failure. So we began medication, within 4 days our dexter had a stroke due to the side effects of the medication .We rang Chris and was greeted with “ yes that can happen, just keep an eye on him”I decided to stop giving Dexter the medicine and he improved, which surley shouldn’t happen if he “needed” these tablets.After returning to Chris again with concerns about Dexters stomach, as we had found more lumps. To be greeted again with yeh, nothing wrong.Until I had enough and rang a week later demanding an xray be done.I will always be grateful for trusting my own gut and not taking Chris’s word for it.Dexter had a massive tumour within this stomach, that was pushing his organs up.Chris mentioned palatine care/putting Dexter to sleep briefly on the phone before I came back to collect Dexter, this was a 30 second conversation.However I arrived to collect Dexter with the receptionist asking me to pay for medication, we haven’t even discussed with Chris.After speaking with Chris and taking time at home we decided keeping Dexter full of drugs for the sake of a week, was in human and we sadly decided to put him to sleep.We were placed in a room and left for what felt like a life time, I felt it was very insensitive as we left and asked to pay.To some a dog is just an animal, but Dexter was my whole world and I am left devastated that he must of been in so much pain, longer than he needed to be.If you can’t take the time to give each animal. STOP taking them on.

May 07, 2025 · vicky allenOur dog was diagnosed with diabetes. We were informed by Chris for every dog that the treatment works there is a dog it doesn’t. Our little man Brodie was 10/11 yrs of age. Chris and his team did everything to help him, they did above and beyond. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the outcome we all hoped for as Brodie was one of the ones that it didn’t work . We are absolutely devastated but we know that Chris and all of his team did everything for Brodie and for us. Thank you
